"Acquiring experiences can be sudden,..."

  • Posted Dec 30, 2005
Acquiring experiences can be sudden, unique or in line with expectations. While the thrill of a getaway is based on choices, a sudden decision of taking a holiday is generally an impulse ‘resort buy’. Along came Indiaresortsurvey.com that featured good and popular resorts and I found the Ramee Guestline to my liking. Guest line, as the name suggests truly believes in 'the guest on the line' mantra (sheer coincidence? I think not!). It is well connected to Bangalore (situated after Electronic city, Hosur road) but it gives a rustic countryside feel, which is clearly important, when one wants to break away from hectic city life. Upon my arrival at the resort, I could clearly sense that unlike many of the resorts I tend to visit this one was not flooded with luxurious fanfare; but it clearly possessed its unique charm, which is very earthy and grounded. The atmosphere is extremely calm with plenty of trees, a polished lawn and a manicured garden. Initially I thought, it would be a ‘run off the mill resort’, however to my sheer delight and surprise there are plenty of activities to merge your self into. Pretty much every sporting activity including lawn tennis, squash and badminton to miniature golf (put-put as they like to call it). It was so much fun my grandma couldn't get enough! Generally, kids and young adults tend to savour these experiences alone but my visit with my family had all the hallmarks of a treasured experience. The multi-cuisine restaurant is very unique as well. They serve up buffets at lunch and dinner and there were some exceptional dishes that conjure up good memories. The spread is pretty lavish. The service both room and restaurant related are pretty good. There is a 24 hour café and a small outlet to purchase Kashmiri products. It was clearly a booked up location. Most corporate tend to organize their meetings/conferences and parties for employees at the Guestline. They also have resident DJs and other shenanigans available for a laugh. If one wants a therapeutic massage then Guestline is a gold-mine. The resort features some of the best masseuse available with rejuvenation guaranteed. There was a slight flipside to my experience. The rooms could do with more opulence in their treatment that could include renovation, probably better interiors and a complete do-over of the restroom. The resort charges need to reflect this in the entire package. The rooms were a let down however other activities available on-site made sure I was outside until I had to necessarily drop dead. Whichever way you look at it, the entire experience was truly remarkable. At the next hint of an available off I might just whisk back to the Guestline and relish the sights and sounds in the lap of semi-luxury all over again.

Best Experience: Some of the examples that exemplify my best experiences are: 1) Checking in was a breeze, with most time being spent on mapping out our activities, serving welcome drinks and getting us acquainted with the resort. 2) Most hotels and resorts don’t care too much for their swimming pool, however the cleanliness and constant re-cycling of water keep it fresh and amazingly with little trace of chemicals. I was pretty much ‘pooling’ for as long as I could because of this. 3) Round the clock sports instructors at bay. I didn’t have a partner nor did I make any acquaintances with guests at the resort. However, the sports instructors made sure of my sporting needs and played every possible sport I was in the mood for. 4) Restaurant service also took the cake (literally!). They were kind enough to bake a complimentary cake at short notice for my cousin’s birthday.

Worst Experience: I can’t think of too many but the whole experience ended on a bizarre note. At the check-out counter our bill lapped up several thousand over the regular expected charges. Upon close observation it was clear that our bill was muddled up with a previous guest who was residing in our room. The internet charges gave it away. They did apologise and quickly produced the correct bill. Luckily, we took notice or we would have paid far more than we should have.

There were a lot of leisure activities available for people who want to spend their time on vacation. Mini Golf is a very good idea though some amount of maintenance is required. Shuttle, Squash, TT, Tennis - all are available.

Best Experience: They provided ample space for playing cricket and football as we had gone there as a big group. The lawns are well maintained. The gym is excellent.

Worst Experience: Although we had booked much earlier, the breakfast was not ready on time. However, I give the benefit of doubt to the resorts as they could have thought that they need to provide it hot.

Was a good experience. Overall good sporting activities. Well equipped gym and Sauna. The lobby was good and the pick of menu was balanced between Indian, Chinese and European cusine. The lawns are well maintained too !!!

Best Experience: The best resort in and around Bnagalore for sports activities. The staff very courteous.

Worst Experience: The pool was under renovation and the starters were not impressive

Decent place for a weekend getaway. Not very well maintained, especially the rooms. Good for a mix of business and pleasure.
