The Air Force Museum in Shillong is situated in the Headquarter of the Eastern Command of the Indian Air Force. It is on the way to Cherrapunjee, at a distance of 8 km from the city. The museum provides information on the history of the Indian Air Force. There are also cultural exhibits. On display is the fighter plane Caribou which was used in the Indo-Pak War of 1971.
The gift shop in the museum sells key chains and other souvenirs. The museum is open half a day on Sundays and entry is free. An hour to 90 minutes is probably sufficient time to explore the museum. Before entering the museum, a valid photo identity is kept as security, which is returned after coming out.
