Ajara is a town located in Ajara Taluka of Kolhapur district in Indian state of Maharashtra. It is situated on the Kolhapur Amboli road on the banks of Chitra and Hiranyakeshi rivers. Ajara is the birthplace of late Shree Shivajirao Sawant, who wrote some of the famous novels like Chhava, Yugandhar, Mrityunjay and many more.
Amboli, a hill station and the Ramtirth Waterfall lie near Ajara, which attract tourists in large number. Surrounded by dense tropical forests of Sahyadri, Ajara is known for heavy rainfall and the production of Ghansal rice.
