The Amaravathi Crocodile Farm is considered as the largest crocodile breeding centre in southern India. The mugger crocodiles, popular as the Persian crocodiles and marsh crocodiles, are the commonly found species.
In order to provide natural habitat to these muggers, man-made reservoirs and irrigation canals have been developed in this farm. It has slow moving water. The muggers are more adapted to terrestrial life unlike other crocodiles. These are considered more mobile as they can move long distance in search of a suitable home.
The project of captive breeding of this species was started at Amaravathi as it was near extinction. This crocodile farm was established in 1976. Around 98 crocodiles, out of which 25 are males and 73 are females, live in this farm.
Timing : 9 am – 6 pm (Daily)
