I went to Shimla for adventure and stayed 2 days in Amber Hotel. Rooms were big and comfortable. Staff were polite, obedient and hard working. Location of the hotel is in the heart of the city. Check-in and check-out facility is very easy. Hotel also provide many external service like free wi-fi, laundry, TV, food etc.
We were there for the winter vacation from Jan 13 to Jan 15 for three days and two nights. To start with the hotel's location was very close to the ridge and the mall road. But the road leading to the hotel was quite steep and required a few calories. The hotel's receptionist was quite polite and provided rooms on the first floor facing the road. Though the rooms had some stinking smell as we entered, but then there was a room freshener to deal with that. The room was very clean; walls were well padded with cushions to keep the room warm. Hot water ran through the tap 24/7. They served tea in the mornings. And the room service was satisfactory. But yes it was situated in a busy street of street dwellers. But you hear none of the noises when you close the doors. Then we hired a cab from the hotel personnel to go to Kufri, Nandehra. We came to the room in the evening, got fresh and headed to the mall road and ridge which is just a few steps away from the hotel up the hill. And the best part was night shopping in the mall road on a breezy winter evening. Ladies would love to shop as there were so many shops selling the local jewellery, and leather items. There were quite a few outlets selling local delicacies like momo's and tomato soup with bread crumbs. There was a hotel here near the clock tower on ridge ran by Himachal tourism guys. There was also a booking office by HPTDC. I advise to first check this hotel out if you are willing to go for Kullu and Manali. The next morning we headed to trek the Jakhoo Hill to have the darshan of hanuman temple which was about 2.5 km from the hotel. It was a lifetime experience My advice to the travellers is that if you are looking out for budget and looking to stay in and around ridge, mall road this is the perfect destination. The things I would do differently is that I would book sightseeing with HPTDC rather than some local taxi. Reason being that they charge heavily and safety concerns in the ghat roads. And yes please carry your own towels and soap or shampoos because the things the hotel provides aren't advisable.

I visited Shimla in May 2014 with some of my friends and we all stayed in Amber Hotel for 5 days. We all enjoyed very much in this hotel. Rooms are very well maintained and clean. The services were excellent and the pick and drop facility to and from was good. Room services were also so good. The staff are supportive and cooperative. Amber Hotel is located at very attractive location with hill views through my room and that was very romantic environment. The rooms are big enough to stay with attached bathroom. I would like to visit again with my family.
