Anaimalai is a village, popular for the Indira Gandhi Wildlife Sanctuary. The sanctuary is named after the former Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi. It is also known as the Anaimalai Sanctuary and is situated at the core of the Nilgiri Biosphere Preserve.
Animals such as panthers, elephants, civet cats, wild boars, tigers and spotted deer can be seen here. One can also see numerous birds such as black-headed orioles, spotted doves, red-whiskered bulbuls, tree pies and rocket-tailed drongos.
Another prominent attraction of this place is the Mt. Stuart Block that is known for an ancient Forest Department Bungalow. This block has a grave of Hugo Wood, a British officer.
