Anegudde Vinayaka Temple is situated on a hill in Kumbhashi, about 9 km south of Kundapur. The Mahalingeshwara Temple is situated near the Anegudde Vinayaka Temple.
It is said that Sage Agasthya performed penance at this site to attract the attention of Indra. It is also believed that Bheemasena killed the demon Kumbhasura at this spot, with a weapon given to him by Lord Ganesha. Therefore, the temple was constructed in honour of Lord Ganesha and was named the Anegudde. The name Anegudde is derived from two words, 'Ane' and 'Gudde,' meaning 'elephant' and 'hillock' respectively.
The site is one of the seven 'Mukti Sthalas' of Karnataka. The idol of Lord Ganesha, who is the presiding deity, is in the standing position and is kept in the main sanctum. The idol has four hands and out of the four, two hands signify 'Varda Hasta’, symbolising the power of granting boons. The remaining two hands point towards the feet that represent salvation. The two popular festivals celebrated in this temple are the Ganesh Chaturthi and Sankastha Chaturthi. Tulabharam is performed here during these festivals, as a part of the ritual. In the month of December, a car festival is organised in the temple.
