Anegundi is a village located in the Gangavathi taluk of Koppal District, on the bank of the Tungabhadra River. This village is famous for historical sites like the Anegundi Palace and Anegundi Fort. Anegundi is also known as 'elephant pit' in the local language, as it was used for keeping the elephants of the Vijayanagara Empire.
The site is also believed to be a part of Kishkindha, the kingdom of Vali and Sugreva, the son of Indra and Sun God, in the Ramayana. This town of Anegundi was destroyed in 1776 during the reign of Tipu Sultan.
Some of the prominent attractions of the village are the Gagan Palace, Pampa Sarovara Laxmi temple, Seven Headed Snake temple, Lord Ranganatha temple and Ganesha temple.
Another major attraction of the village is the Archaeological Museum which holds a display of collections of sculptures, Neolithic tools and a large floor model of the Vijayanagar ruins. The Nandi Pillar in Huchchaiappana Mutt and Garuda Sthambha are the other attractions of the village.
