Archaeological Museum was established in 1964 by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). It is located within the premises of the Convent of St. Francis. The museum has a collection of sculptures that represent the native lifestyle of Goa before the arrival of Portuguese. In 1864, the convent was shut down, but the museum is still open for public.
The museum has eight galleries displaying portraits and sculptures of ancient times and late medieval period. A portrait of Vasco da Gama can be seen among the collection of paintings. Antiques and Portuguese weapons like rifles, daggers and swords are also on display. Moreover, coins, stamps, ancient maps, Palaeolithic tools and wooden sculptures are other items displayed in the Archaeological Museum.
Timing : 10 am - 5 pm (Daily, Closed on Fridays)
Admission Fees : INR 5 (Adult)
