The Archaeological Museum, one of the major tourist destinations of Sarnath, is the oldest site museum of the Archeological Survey of India (ASI). The Archaeological Museum, known also as the Sarnath Museum, is famous for its rich collection of artifacts excavated from the Archeological site at Sarnath.

Located near the Archeological site, the Archaeological Museum was built in 1910, adjacent to the Sangharama Monastery. The museum has five galleries named as Tathagata, Triratna, Shakyasimha Gallery, Trimurti and Ashutosh Gallery. The museum also has two verandas which are named as Vastumandana and Shilparatna.

The major exhibits at the Archaeological Museum include the Ashoka Pillar, Dharmrajika Stupa, Saddharmachakra Vihar, images of Buddha and Bodhisattva, Lord Krishna, Lord Ganesha, Goddess Saraswati, etc. The museum also exhibits excavated sculptures and antiquities that can be dated back to the period between the 3rd century BC to the 12th century AD.

Timing: 10 am – 5 pm (Closed on Fridays)
Admission Fees: Rs. 10.00 (For adults)
