The Ariyakulam Bird Sanctuary is located at a distance of around 13 km from Tirunelveli. This sanctuary is home to various endemic and migratory birds like common coot, spotted and emerald dove, green sandpiper, little ringed plover and black-winged stilt.
The sanctuary also has a significant population of stork billed, white-throated and black-capped kingfisher, Nilgiri wood pigeons, pied and chestnut winged cuckoo, and spot billed pelican.
