The Aryadevi Samadhi Mandapam was built to honour the mother of Sree Sankara Acharya, Aryadevi. The body of his mother was cremated here by Sankara Acharya himself with the help of two Namboodiri families of Kalady.
This place was identified and accepted in 1905 by Sree Sringeri Mutt as the birthplace of the legend Sankara Acharya. In 1905, this place was acquired from Kappilly Mana by the Travancore Highness and was given to Sree Sringeri Mutt.
