Avani, also called as the Gaya of the South, is famous for a cluster of Ramalingeshwara temples. Within a courtyard, there are shrines dedicated to Lakshmana, Bharat and Shatrugna. It also has a Shankar Matha, built by the Nolamba rulers.
The nearby hill has Valmiki’s Ashram, where Luv and Kush were born. Among the very few Sitadevi temples, one is located at the top of this hill. The village of Avani is also famous for rock climbing and trekking.
