If you are looking for a Goan experience out side of Goa, this is it. This quaint place is recommended for the young at heart with limited budget, and not for families with kids who look for something more conventional and want modern amenities; and definitely not for corporate guests or rich travelers who seek AC comfort & frills.

This resort, built in the lines of an Indian village, has a rustic feel and a rural ambiance that attracts foreign tourists in droves. It has a nice easy-going feel to it. The cottages come with balconies and are made of mud walls with pleasing motifs and thatched roofs. Every balcony has a swing, which is a plus point. The rooms are very basic with a double bed and a mosquito net. The bathrooms are clean with standard fittings.

To get to Shanthi Guest House, you have to get to the other side of the Tungabadhra river, away from the main town and temples. Govt boats ferry you to and fro between 6 am to 6 pm for a nominal price. 2 wheelers & bicycles can be accommodated in the boats. For folks looking for peace and quiet, this place is ideal since it's away from the maddening crowd. Most of the resorts and restaurants are on this side of the river and they mostly cater to foreign tourists.
It's popularly known as the poor man's Goa.

Most of the cottages face the lush green paddy-fields and a few face the road. The TB river is just 100 meters away across the paddy fields. Rooms are decently priced at around Rs. 1000-1200. Wi-fi connectivity is available.

The dining facility also serves as a community space. They face the fields, and are also thatched affairs with low mud walls and mattresses lining the walls with low tables. A great place for folks to get together and unwind over a cup of tea or some cold beverage.

I found the food very palatable and very reasonably priced. They serve excellent continental fare and the breakfast was super. The service is commendable with courteous staff. You can also get Israeli food here.

There are no Liquor shops in Hampi and Liquor is not served in this facility. You can access it from the surrounding villages, or from Hospet and can be consumed in the confines of your cottage.

It's recommended that you hire a bicycle or moped - costs around Rs. 50-100 a day - since the place is located about half a KM from the boathouse. It's very convenient to get around and see the picturesque countryside. You can also take the moped to the temple side of the city via ferry and explore the various ruins and monuments that are spread over a large area,.

If you have a bicycle or 2 wheeler, you can also check out Sanapur Reservoir, which is just 5 km from the resort. Best visited in the evening, the view of the sunset and its reflection on the lake is breathtaking. The boulders with their long shadows, surrounded by greenery is something spectacular.

Overall, the resort is great value for money, especially, for backpackers and youngsters who travel in a group with limited budget. It has the right atmosphere and ambiance to make the trip memorable. Avoid visiting during summer, since the temperature can rise to beyond 40 C and there is no air conditioning at the resort. Hampi is best visited during the monsoons, as the place is lush green at this time of the year. And with the river level being full, it's ideal for coracle rides!

Amenties: the new shanti guest house is on the other side of the hampi town in the hippy haven.. overlooking paddy fields very different from the earlier one which was more of a backpackers den. This one provides with all the reasonable comforts , comfortable bed, TV clean airy rooms.

Services: the staff is courteous and quick to attend to your needs. generally they might seem a little bias to foreigners but its not a case.

Advice: peak season pleaes book in advance from Oct onwards till feb end. There are multiple options for meals if you dont wanna have them in the place. The tariiffs range from 700vfor single rooms to 1500/- for cottages.pretty neat for the standards.

I would say its a very dependable and laid back place to spend your hampi holiday. :)

Overall experience is very nice. Especially food- different types of option of food is just awesome.

Best Experience: Scenic beauty of paddy field in front of cottage is very nice. Time spent of "jhula" is also worth saying apart from its special food.

Worst Experience: Room service is not very good. Should have "AC" in rooms.

Good. In general the ambience was good, the setting was very good, and it was close to the fields and Tungabadra river, which was a great place to go to early in the morning(before 7 am).

Best Experience: The location was very convenient to go around different parts of Hampi.

Worst Experience: The food was bad; very oily etc.
