Badrinath is a must-visit destination for tourists visiting Tehri-Garhwal District of Uttarakhand state. It is also one of the destinations of the Char Dham pilgrimage, the others being Gangotri, Yamunotri and Kedarnath.
Badrinath temple, dedicated to Lord Vishnu is the prime attraction of Badrinath. Situated at an elevation of 3133 m, Badrinath temple is believed to have been in existence since the early Vedic period. Later it was destroyed in massive landslides and the idol of Lord Badri-Narayan was lost in River Alakananda. Adi Shankaracharya, in 8th century AD, recovered the idol from river and consecrated it.
Also known as Vishal Badri, Badrinath temple is a famous Vaishnavite pilgrim spot and the most revered one among the five Badris.
