Bahu Fort is among the popular sightseeing attractions of the city of Jammu, which was built by Raja Bahulochan over 3,000 years ago. The fort was later restored during the 19th century by the Dogra rulers. Other notable attractions of the fort include Bahu Temple, a shrine dedicated to Goddess Kali.

The fort stands on a plateau overlooking Tawi River with the surroundings developed into a well laid garden known as Bhave ki Bahu. Bhave ki Bahu is laid on the lines of the Mughal Gardens from where tourists can have a bird’s eye view of Jammu city.

An ancient fort is placed within the thick sandstone walls and features eight octagonal towers with enclosures to house guards. There were several reconstructions from time to time in the fort; the last was done by Maharaja Gulab Singh in the 19th century.

"Spirituality at its best"

  • 7.0/7
  • Posted Oct 27, 2015
I have visited Bahu Fort many times. I always go there during navratras. The temple of Maa Kaali is there. The environment there is very spiritual. The remains of old fort is still there. There is also a park with the temple where you can enjoy by sitting there and an aquarium as well. You can have a wonderful view of Jammu City from Bahu Fort. It is a beautiful site to go for picnic or good time. Everyone must go there atleast once if you visit Jammu ever.

"Good sightseening place"

  • 7.0/7

Situated 5 km away from the city centre, Bahu Fort stands on a rock face on the left bank of the river Tawi. Perhaps the oldest fort and edifice in the city, it was constructed originally by Raja Bahu Lochan over 3, 000 years ago. The existing fort was more recently improved upon and extended by the Dogra rulers. Inside, there is a temple dedicated to the Hindu goddess Kali. An extensive terraced garden, known as Bagh-e-Bahu, has been developed around the fort.

A very beautiful temple inside the fort but make sure you don't go on Tuesday as it is heavily crowded. Nearby shops are available though for purchase. Adjacent are fish aquarium and Bahu Ka Baag.

"Fort in a good location"

Good location near river, convenient shopping options. But food options are very less. Sunset view is good, if food options are not available then outside food should be allowed.

"Worth visiting once"

Nothing special, the area is full of monkeys. However, it must be visited once as trip to Jammu can not be complete without this. Good view of river can be had from the fort garden.

"Tranquil and wonderful place to get into something different"

  • 5.5/7
  • Posted Jul 23, 2014
It was the last week of October 2013, when we had four days stay. A splendid experience I had, enjoying every bit and byte of my stay. Perfect for families. Isolated from the population, a very serene and beautiful resort to choose for. It was so tranquil and wonderful place, in the mornings we could hear the animal and birds sounds. We felt we were in the wild. The food was absolutely wonderful both breakfast and dinner for vegetarians as well for meat lovers. The owners who own this place are great. They showed us their coffee estate and also took us on a tour to see the spices that they grow there. The host and hostess are wonderful people will smiling faces and you get the treatment as their family member only. At the same time the guest rooms are located far from their house, so you get all your privacy as well. I strongly recommend this place. Please book your stay well in advance.
