During the stay in winter time at the hotel we had booked AC deluxe room. They had given Room no 106, which is good, rather excellent. The room is spacious and clean. However, the restaurant is probably the worst I have seen over there. No menu card at the room so that we can select food by ourselves, no variation in food. Most of the time the very basic things are available like dal, rice and potato fry. We have to provide the lunch order in the morning. Most of the time, especially at night they don't have fish item. This becomes really bad for the people like us, who are not frequent consumers of eggs and chicken. In brief food is a horrible scenario that restricts to stay at this hotel second time. People are good over there and cordial.
We had booked four rooms in all and travelled with family. Rooms were not ready, they were smelling like anything. Lots of mosquitoes, intercom was not working. No one in the front office was responding. The bed had cockroaches, spiders and bed bugs. There was a major scarcity of staff. We did not order food so cannot comment. There was no towels, water and basic toiletries in the room till night despite we reminded them multiple times. The quits were smelly. Overall the standard of the room was disgusting. I would NEVER EVER RECOMMEND ANYONE TO STAY.
I visited a Guest House, Basundhara Inn at Prantik, Shantiniketan, West Bengal. The Hotel is just opposite to the Prantik Railway Station. It looks beautiful from the station. The in and around of the hotel is also peaceful. This is the best hotel to stay during pous-mela on December time.
Last year December with our friends group visited at Santiniketan for the purpose of Poush Mela. Awesome experience! This is one biggest fair in West Bengal. We visited Visha Bharti University We stayed at Basundhara Hotel in Santiniketan, it is situated at Bagan Para, Semantically. Due to festival season room was not available. They offered us another hotel with the deluxe rooms at same price. Room was very cleaned and well maintained. Wash rooms are average maintained. Several quality food are available with very reasonable price. In fact in Birbhum District food price is very reasonable. And people are very good well co-operative. Enjoyed our trip.
I have been visiting Shantiniketan for several years now and it has become sort of a regular retreat for me. And I have stayed in different places all these years. This time when I decided to visit Shantiniketan during Poush Mela with family I didn't get booking at the usual places so started exploring newer ones. As I chanced upon Basundhara in the web I checked the details through their site and contacted the desk. We got a package deal for 3 of us - husband wife and daughter for 2 nights 3 days, I. E. From 25th morning till 27th morning. It was easy to follow instruction and deposit the advance through net banking and I got the confirmation over phone . . We were picked up from Bolpur station and that was convenient. The staff greeted us nicely; we liked the room and the attached Bath. It was in the ground floor and closer to the dining hall which I liked. The bed was enough for the three of us and the room had all you would need for a 2 nights stay though I was a bit taken aback by the condition of the door and the door lock and felt a bit insecure. I liked most the bathroom it was spacious, airy and lot of daylight crept in through the window. All of us enjoyed using it with the hot water supply 2-3 times a day. They served nice, homely food though not very fancy or exotic which suited us well. I must mention the care and affection with which the staff used to serve food to all the guests in the dining room. Housekeeping and room service ( though we didn't need it that frequently) was excellent. In short it was a nice stay away from home with homely comfort. The only drawback of the place which I would like to mention is its distance from the Vishwa Bharati Campus and the Poush Mela Ground. More so because its a harrowing problem to get rickshaw or other modes of transport in that isolated locality unless you are using the conveyance arranged by the hotel which proved to be expensive. Its best for people having their own transport if they want to enjoy a trouble free and quick tour of Shantiniketan from Basundhara. Also there is no shops medical stores around for buying essentials during emergency.
The occasion was an interview of my daughter for an Assistant Professor in Comparative Literature at Viswa Bharati University to be held at Sriniketan. I chose this hotel by seeing their ad on the Internet. One reason was the nearness of its location to the place of interview which was Kuthibari, Sriniketan. The hotel looked far away from the market-place, and there was no shop for buying any necessary items of daily life. Quietness is good, but too much of it is depressing. We felt it particularly all the three evenings we spent at the hotel. The staff welcomed us, no doubt, and helped us to get cars for going to places but there was little to pass time within the hotel. There was no provision for indoor games like table-tennis or even carom; not even a swing to ride. The television set in our room had a very poor picture quality, and it was a semi old set of 14inches. The bathroom was not too bad, but its mirror was unusable stained, and the shelf in front of it was hanging without support from one end. The food was not very satisfactory. The rice was far from soft, and the fishes were heavily coated with thick spices the smell of which we did not like. The Roti they served at night was much better; but the chicken was rather tough to swallow. Tea and coffee was good, but the cups were small, and the layer of butter on the bread was extremely thin. The late August was a lean season, and we hardly found more than one or two boarders in the hotel. Compared to our stay at the Tourist Lodge at Santiniketan some five years ago, this time we felt rather bored but the three days somehow passed. Next time if I go to the same hotel, I shall go with several friends, and well provided with biscuits, cakes and playing cards, and demand a better TV set in the room and more interesting items of food . .
Overall stay was really good with family in the month of December and it is conveniently located where they will provide a cab facility. The surroundings are good location with calm and quiet not having hotspot of the city. Staff at the hotel were good and appearance was traditional. Room was professional with good service by providing all amenities and there is a helipad view. Food provided by hotel was really good, tasty and I suggest those who visit here to have food. I was happy with the room allotted with garden view inside the hotel. They arranged sightseeing trip but we did not use it. The amount paid is value for money and no suggestions to hotel improvement as it was going at time.
Santiniketan is known for its peace & harmony. We couple of friends had a visit there last year. We had booked Basundhara Hotel online. It's a great hotel It has nice hospitality. Rooms are spacious & well maintained. You would love the interiors. Location is superb; there is no difficulty in reaching the hotel. Room was well kept with a TV and a nice bed. The bed sheet was clean and new. Cleanliness & hygiene was great. Food & restaurant was awesome. Budget wise it is also pocket friendly. Highly recommended.
Hotel Basundhara was far away from main locality and roads are dark at night. Room conditions are old and not maintained properly (TV, toilet, bed, sofa sets, towels etc has to be neat and clean). Service quality is not measured / monitored by top management periodically which is recommended to attract people / earn desired satisfaction matrix. Variety of fishes, foods are to be made available on demands . . The best part is hotel's 1st floor round lobby is enjoyable for kids to play plus the gardens maintained with beautiful flower and greenery. Service boys are polite, dedicated and committed to bring satisfaction to the best of their ability / support provided. Food quality is good at times. Overall it's an average hotel
