We traveled as a group of 12 people including two kids to Kochi. We had previously stayed at a Fern property at Jaipur. The good quality of service received then had prompted us to check out this new property in the heart of Kochi, right next to the Ernakulam South Railway station. The reception lobby was spacious and had a very modern casual appearance. The staff welcomed us with a drink and cold napkins. This was indeed refreshing after a tiring journey by road from Kottayam. The hotel staff upgraded us to the Hazelnut suites from our originally booked Wintergreen rooms. We had booked 3 rooms in total and were pleasantly surprised by this courtesy. It took them about 20 minutes to get the 3rd room ready. But we were shown into our rooms by a very pleasant lady at the front desk. The hazelnut suites were amazing and two of them had a bathroom with huge Bath tubs which almost looked like a Jacuzzi. The rooms were very spacious, extremely comfortable and had a modern appeal to it. The negative part was that the galleries had a weird small something like that of new paint. We had the opportunity to use the travel desk as well twice. The first one was an Innova which was well kept and driven well. The second one was a Tata Indica to go to the airport. The driver of this car was very slow and we almost were scared that we would miss our flight . . In the evening we had dinner at their restaurant on the 2nd floor. The ambience was average. The welcoming aspect was also average and the steward was taking care of only one particular group, but did not show the same pleasantries to us. We had asked about having a group dinner beforehand, but the manager did not give us the slightest idea that they had buffet available in the evening and instead pointed us to order from the ala chart. Only after we ordered we realized that the buffet would have been a better deal. The food was good but as I said I felt that no one was paying enough attention to our group. We asked them for a cake for my dad's birthday and they offered to make a cake free. This was a nice gesture but the cake tasted terrible. Later we went back to our rooms. At night one of our rooms had problems with the cooling system and the staff had to be called in the middle of the night to make arrangements. Next day, we all went for the complimentary breakfast. The manager was much more hospitable this time. The buffet spread was good but the bakery items appeared old and stale. The coffee and the omelets counter were great. We checked out that afternoon and the hotel extended the check out time for some of the people in our group. Overall, the hotel has a very good potential and appeal. The front office is great. The food is good but bakery can be improved. The Manager at the restaurant needs to be a little more creative and should help the guests to have a good time. The property and rooms are amazing for the price. I would recommend this place to others and would also plan to stay again at this property at the next visit.
The hotel was nearby the railway station so it was conveniently located. The appearance of the hotel was fine. I had a good experience in the hotel. I didn't face any issue during check-in and check-out process. Food facility was there in the hotel. They provided buffet system as well as room service. They served both veg and non-veg food. The cost of the food was little expensive. The staff were not friendly but hygienic. They were not provided quick service. The room was very good. It was spacious, clean and maintained. Pillows, bed sheet blankets and wash room were neat and clean. I didn't have any special view from my room. The swimming pool was there in the hotel, but it was not open. It was a relaxation trip. The overall, destination was good and the hotel was value for money.
Everything in the hotel was fine. The hotel was in a better place and it was easy to reach the hotel. The hotel was nearby the bus stand. The surroundings of the hotel were fine. Staff at the hotel was friendly, helpful and hygienic. Receptionist and other staff were all good. Check-in and check-out procedure was not delayed. The exterior appearance of the hotel was good, but the interior was beautiful. The room allotted to us was well maintained with all the amenities in working condition. There was no view from the room. Washroom was also neat and clean. They provided nice food, and they had both veg and non veg. They don't organize any indoor outdoor activities or games.
I was in Cochin for a two-day business tour. I arrived in the afternoon on Thursday, about an hour late, thanks to a delayed flight! I received a warm and friendly welcome at the reception. While, we had booked the room in advance, and I was in a bit of hurry to check-in and move to office, it took the hotel staff some time to a lot me a room . . The room was quite nice and spacious and when I first looked at the room, I was tempted to stay back in hotel and finish my presentation from there. The room looked quite hi-tech with an interesting console to control lights etc. However, I needed some inputs from some of my colleagues in Cochin and so I proceeded to the office and returned in about 3-4 hours The dinner was not nice. Nor did the restaurant staff understand how to advice on Kerala cuisine, neither did they really understand what I was asking for. The entire dinner process was time consuming and the food was not particularly good. Once back in the room, I had some trouble with getting the TV on, but received prompt room service on that one. The biggest issue was that around 1 at night, the electricity went off. And it seemed like there was no automatic generator back up. I tried for a couple of hours to get some sleep, but it was not possible to sleep without the AC and finally, I called the front desk for help. And I was just so upset to hear that it was no electricity failure. Basically, the fuse in my room had tripped and it was just a two-minute job and I was sleepless for two hours. I realized how much of a farce all that hi-tech was, because the front desk automatically get notified of something as simple as this. Overall good, but not fantastic.
I had the memorable experience of staying in Beaumonde The Fern during May- June 2015. The hotel is well located near to the main railway station and it is very convenient to locate and for further movements in the state of Kerala. The very external appearance of the hotel gives a great happiness and satisfaction. The reception staff are very helpful and co-operative. They give a very warm welcome with welcome drink etc. And completes all necessary formalities to check in fast. The handling of our personal belongings, briefing given in the room etc. Make us feel that we are in our close relatives house. The smiling - happy faces of reception staff still remains in my mind The furnishings in the room, arrangements of various items in the room etc. Are also praise worthy. The Bath room maintenance is excellent. Electrical fittings & functioning of AC etc. Needs special mention. I felt very comfortable inside the room. The food served especially the complimentary break fast menu & items are outstanding. I also had the opportunity to use the swimming pool and gym. Which were well maintained. I am very happy to recommend The Fern to any one who visits Kerala for any purpose.
