Excellent place for those who love nature

6.2/7
Posted 16 Mar, 2014

We wanted our vacation to be completely different. We wanted to just relax and do what we wanted to do rather than what our operators or the others wanted us to do. So we decided that we go to a place which is unconventional and out of the box . We heard about the bethel home stay at Coorg and we decided to test this place. This place is totally unconventional. We were provided with the choice of attached room with basic amenities such as bed and some comfortable sitting arrangement to relax. Just a partition with mats that divide the relaxing place with the wash room. The place is completely audible across. You have a choice of the cottages, handmade, with basic requirements. He walk around places are completely basic and you are in touch with the mother nature at all times . . Sitting in the basic wooden bench and sitting arrangement were made by bare hands leaves makes you feel to be in touch with the nature and the chirping of the birds. The scenic beauty in the front offers excellent beauty of the mountains and the greenery. You are completely detached with the world with no communication with the outer world. You do not get papers, radio, tv, Mobile connection (only if you are lucky). The master of the location - Mr. Rakesh - is always there to give you company. Down to earth, with hell of a lot of information about the place is always there. He is not at all in a hurry and always there to provide any type of information you need. Food, you get much more than what you need and you expect, cooked by the Host, well supported with his trusted men, which are about 8 persons . For nature lovers this is the best location. You need not think twice if you want to be in the midst of nature and bask in nature . This is not a place for a place who are looking for any type of expectations. If you want to be in touch with nature and enjoy adventure and lots of hiking this is the place, go ahead and have a great holiday.

Unlimited Service, Limited Price

I had been to Bethel along with my family and friends in Mar 2013. I have selected this place based on the review. After reaching this place, we realized how true all these reviews which were written by previous visitors and I was happy that I have really selected a very good place for our vacation . . I must admire Mr. Rakesh and his team who run this homestay, for the unlimited service they provided. The host Mr. Rakesh would make sure that each and everyone needs whether you require hot water or lukewarm water, milk for kids, curd rice whatever it is. Kudos to Rakesh and his team We started from Bangalore around 6AM morning. By 6:45AM I got a call from Mr. Rakesh and asked us about our whereabouts. Afterwards he kept on calling for every 45 minutes to make sure that we were driving on the right direction till we reached there. We reached this place around 1 PM and Mr. Rakesh welcome us with lemon juice. In another 1 hour he has arranged for very delicious lunch. Then he inquired about our plans about visiting nearby places and he had guided what are all the spots we can cover during our stay. We were treated as if we were staying on our own place. I have not seen or experienced such kind of care and hospitality by anyone else. The food was awesome, rich breakfast, masala omelette, both south Indian and north Indian dishes. Evenings we had varieties of unlimited snacks, starters amongst bonfire . I really don't know how Rakesh and team were able to provide such an awesome food in the thick forest. We had never seen Rakesh saying no to our needs Next day Mr. Rakesh took us for early morning trekking and had good breakfast. Later he took us to small stream close to the resort. We liked the stream very much especially my daughter. In fact he taught swimming to everyone of us very patiently which is unforgettable in our life time. During our whole stay he was telling about the nearby spots, different types of animals, birds & their behaviours and natures. In fact he was educating us about natures The location is wonderful amongst forests, very close to nature. There are plantations around and morning experience was very pleasant with chirp of birds. The rooms were spacious with both western and Indian commodes and kept very clean. We had most memorable and fantabulous experience at Bethel Homestay. I am waiting my next visit to Bethel I highly recommend that it is really worth visiting this place no matter whether you want to do trekking, river rafting or relaxation Best Experience : Food, Early Morning trekking within the resort, Enjoyable nature, Stream close to the resort . Worst experience : None.

The place is inside the Brahmani forests

7.0/7
Posted 6 Nov, 2013

We found about Bethel Home stay from a friend. I traveled with my wife to "Bethel Home stay". We started from Bangalore at 7am and reached there at 1 pm. Rakesh, the owner, called us at regular intervals to ensure we were on the correct way . . The place is inside the Brahmani forests and owner Rakesh send a person at Kutta bus stand to pick us up. Only SUVs can reach his place due to road conditions, but someone from the home stay will whole heatedly pick you up in the jeep. You can leave your car on Kutta bus stand . The place itself is totally cut off from the concrete jungle. No phone network or electricity, though there are solar panels which are usable for lights in night and laptop / phone charging. We stayed in the treehouse which was very cosy and you could see the Nilgiris from the balcony. Rakesh and his staff showed excellent hospitality and made sure we were totally comfortable. The whole time, we felt as if we are at our home. The food was mouth watering, especially the mushrooms which were locally picked. Rakesh ensured that everyone's needs were met. He would provide you whatever your need be, from hot water to milk for children . After our lunch Rakesh asked about our plans for the day and even accompanied us for jungle trip. He has eyes of an eagle and ensured that we don't miss any wildlife . The dinner was around a campfire which was an exhilarating experience . Next morning Rakesh showed us a small stream of river where we could enjoy nature. Totally worth place to visit.

Great Host. Awesome Good. Clean rooms. Activity wise make sure you have agenda yourself or if you just want to be away from noise and dust, this place should be your first choice . Unforgettable stay with awesome food and service

7.0/7
Posted 5 May, 2014

After a long and hectic work week, we took a break to Coorg. First place that was suggested Bethel home stay. Went with three friends, I bet anyone would love to stay there. Too good, we had an unforgettable stay. Awesome food and service. No network (one of the reasons we choose this place). During night its complete dark with millions of glow worms and small solar powered LED's, its magic. The only advice I will give is be prepared to extend your stay, plan during Kinkily or winters. Days are hot but nights are chilly. Spend a night at bethel.

Food was awesome with good activities

6.7/7

Travelling to such an exotic place, in the nature's bed and then getting awesome food(Chicken kabab, different kinds of rice and many other stuff), makes the scenario heavenly. Just staying at that place with such quality facilities, takes your whole exertion off and gives you peace of mind. Apart from these, I went trekking, which was Too good, the path was such a good mix of deep Jungle and cliffs. There are many other places like Iruppu falls, Rajiv Gandhi National Park and many more to visit. I went there for the first time, Now making it an annual thing. When next time I visit, I would like to go on other Treks and rafting, which I missed this time.

Refuel Recharge at no frills genuine nature camp

7.0/7
Posted 31 Dec, 2013

It was my fourth stay at Bethel. Would describe it as a camp that has more nature than you can expect. As kids we always wanted to camp outside and had few places that we could go to. Well, Bethel is something that has been created for us and if you want to be in company of nature you just need to call Rakesh and have couple of alternate dates handy as its always full, tell him 'saar swalpa adjust madi and Rakesh will accommodate and will not disappoint . . Bethel should be experienced and not described in detail as one would otherwise miss the excitement. However as I call it a camp thus it has everything that one would need with abundance of nature tucked away into a Hill slope with a breathless view of brahmagiri Hill range, endless chirping of birds through out the day, and as day sets in, its silence and you hear water flow in nearby river (must visit and take a dip), offcourse now you can also hear sounds of cricket an occasional gun shot at a distance, oh Some one just shot a wild boar or scared a wild animal away in near by plantations. You need to trek the Estate and you will not go to a gym again (lol). That's enough I guess. You need something to munch away as you will need to keep your engine running. Was pampered with a good spread of Breakfast, Lunch and dinner. Offcourse never ending hot pakodas that went perfect with my Peter Scot (Whisky) switched to Hercules Deluxe (****) the next day as Bheem Singh (chef from himalayas) never stopped the fire and perfectly suited the chill. So Breakfast lunch dinner and snacks on call is what you get to be with nature and ohhh no dieting and calculating calories reason you will burn it out in an hour :). So Friends be with nature, refresh, recharge at Bethel Home Stay and get back to your respective routine to come back again for a refuel at no frills genuine nature camp. You can reach Rakesh @ he has handcrafted this camp for you. Cheers. Arvin.

Pleasant stay and great experience for life

6.4/7
Posted 27 Aug, 2017

Was recommended by my friend who had visited years back. In fact he recalled his experience even after years of his stay, such was his experience and mine is not much different . Mr. Rakesh has helped me plan my vacation not only at Bethel Home in Coorg, but he helped me plan my vacation for a good 8 days. From Kannur to Coorg to Ooty to Mysore Rakesh has a very good parcel of land. Forest. Natural habitat spread over 65 acres . The nature is not interrupted with artificial roads and infra apart from nature viewing cottages. The stay was special as all the ingredients were in balance - right from the choice of period - Aug 12, 13 & 14 (though I was lucky and thank the rain gods for not disrupting the holiday) - it was all green, the shrilling sound of nature by Cicada insects and a perfect owner / host along with his team :). You can have a good close view of the coffee & pepper plantations in the property along with a 3 to 4 kilometer trek (to & fro) spearheaded by Mr. Rakesh for about 2 hours to start your day !. I was told about great food for non vegetarians, but I must say that the food was sumptuous for vegetarians as well. The only complaint I have is that the quantity of food was just too much for a family of 3 where my daughter is just 3 !. There are quiet a few places that will take away all your time, if you think that you do not want to stay confined to the property & forest all day Great food led by Mr. Bhagat Singh (had the opportunity to have kheer prepared by Mr. Rakesh as well) . Room services by Kadak Singh and Arun have special mention as well . Thus, all in all I can suggest this place for a good time with excellent hospitality!

Excellent Home-Stay, Fabulous Hospitality

6.1/7
Posted 9 Oct, 2017

This place is nestled in the tranquil coffee estates of Srimangala in Coorg district. The Nagarhole tiger reserve is very close to this place and hence, it would not be a surprise to see animals around. It is an ideal place for travelers who are seeking to be with nature. Our host, Mr. Rakesh, is an amazing person! He is a travel enthusiast himself. Words are not enough to describe the fabulous hospitality extended to us during our stay. We are really happy that we visited the place and we will definitely visit again. The food is simply awesome! Overcooked food which makes you feel welcomed and loved. The accommodation is nice with clean rooms, clean linen and clean toilets. There is also a tree-house with an attached toilet. The staff are very friendly, helpful and prompt. Activity - River rafting, trekking and visit to the coffee plantations. Kudos to Mr. Rakesh & team, you guys are great! Keep up the good work !!

Cheers. Arvin.

5 star services, 3 star pricing! Most hospitable staff I've ever met

This was a really impressive resort. We stayed 3 nights, received first class service throughout our stay !!! It took us such a long time to decide for this resort as there are so many to choose from in Coorg, but I'm glad we did the right one. The reviews weren't lying !!! Super rooms, pretty trees all around, it's not a huge property by any means, so you really get looked after. Very hospitable and amiable host Mr. Rakesh thanks to him, our stay was well planned out and made good use of time I sincerely wished we could have stayed longer, he provides a wide range of food and snacks throughout the day which is always fresh, hot and tasty; it is hard to believe that one can get such variety and taste food in such a location, but I guess that's Rakesh for you; from the time we started till we landed he guided us over the phone throughout the route, at Kutta, his person, Manju was ready to pick us up even though we were delayed, one must not miss out on the white water rafting which is an experience of a lifetime it is very safe, led by well trained guides and worth every buck, also the location is wonderful amongst forests. More over I celebrated my birthday along with my stay, Rakesh arranged KESARI CAKE which was new for all of us, just loved the whole experience it is really worth visiting this place. I highly recommend Bethel Home Stay.

we have been on a 4 day trip to coorg. Mr. Rakesh, a true entrepreneur, arranged the whole trip for us from pickup at Mysore to his homestay and back. The most amazing part is his personal touch to the guests has made the stay awesome. He even accompanied us to the trek in his area which is 44 acres, the bambunji river, even to a wild safari. and let's not forget he is a good spotter too, which helping us in seeing deers, bison, elephant, boars, wild dogs etc. let's come to the food being served....words fall short of praising the menu and sumptuous food...kebabs, onion pakoda, chilli pakoda, paneer pakoda, gulab jamun, payasam are few of the starters...lunch & dinner includes chinese, north indian, south indian and even some coorgi special items.....the tree house where we stayed was an awesome experience alltogether with the hut swaying to the tunes of the wind and mind it, it's having an english toilet...the rustic finish alltogether has made the stay in the forest an amazing experience alltogether. In the evenings you can find yourself humming or dancing around the bonfire..in the absence of electrical gadgets one cannot feel boredom setting in. Last but not the least, should not forget to mention about Kurkule and Blacky, who are basically the heart of the homestay....they are such adorable beings that I was virtually in tears on my way back to Chennai....Long live Kurkule & Blacky and may god bless u both..

I stayed for 3 days at the Bethel home stay with my extended family. We were a total 23 people. The group ranged from age 7 to 78 and there was something for everyone. The stay was really nice and so was the staff, in the end I was almost sorry to leave. Upon arriving I found myself in a valley of Bramahagiri with very scenic views, and a lovely monsoon kept playing hide and seek with us for whole 3 days. The kids in our group enjoyed the food, weather, and the nature. They could always be found on the macchan looking for better views and they even built their own dam at a nearby stream. The owner of the property, Mr. Rakesh is a very friendly and customer centric person. He was very caring towards kids and took every opportunity to guide them & teach them about nature. He personally accompanied us on our trekking and rafting activities which was too generous. The rooms (Bamboo Cottages) were clean and spacious. The bathroom was also spacious and very clean. I stayed in the tree house with my wife and couldn’t contain my surprise when I saw an attached western toilet in the tree house. The food was lovely, very rich and tasty breakfast, I loved scrambled mushroom omelette. The sweet dishes after dinner were also fantastic. Since I was on trekking/rafting holiday I had planned on losing some weight, but with each dinner I’m sure I did quite the opposite. I have been visiting Coorg from the past 12 years and stayed at almost all kind of properties. This, by far was my best experience. My hearty congratulations to the management for their choice of personnel. They know how to really make you feel at home, and if you need anything it is like asking a family member. Way to go, guys, you were fantastic.
