About Bhau Daji Lad Museum

Dr Bhau Daji Lad Museum, the oldest museum of Mumbai, is located in Byculla. The magnificent building with high interiors and Victorian pillars, reopened in 2008 after renovation, is a landmark of Mumbai. The museum, besides providing an insight into the formation of Mumbai and the lives of Mumbaikars in bygone era, does much in promoting contemporary arts and crafts.
The two storey building houses exhibits of all types of Indian artifacts like bidri works, stone works, sandalwood sculptures, silver and copper ware and inlay works in ivory. On the second floor maps, photographs and lithographs of old Mumbai are exhibited. The dioramas and sculptures in clay depicting the life of an Indian village are items never to be missed.
There is an audio-visual room, a cafe and a library inside the Museum. The Dr Bhau Daji Lad Museum is a must-visit destination for students, and people who are interested in history of Mumbai.
Dr Bhau Daji Lad Museum is open to the public from 10 am to 5.30 pm except on Wednesdays and public holidays. Entrance fee is INR 10/- for adults and INR 5/- for children. Dr Bhau Daji Lad Museum is reachable by BEST buses from anywhere in Mumbai.

Dr. Bhau Daji Lad Museum is one of the oldest Museum in India. It dates back to Victorian era. The museum houses a large number of archaeological finds, maps, clay models, silver and copper ware from the industrial era. It also has a section called people of Museum where describes various regions people and their dressing.
