About Bushy Dam

The Bushy Dam is located in the backdrop of scenic hilly terrains between Lonavala and I.N.S. Shivaji. During vacations and on weekends, this site is sought after for its hilly terrains and natural surrounding views.

Tourists come over from various places to visit the waterfalls, which are formed when the water gushes out through the dam during the monsoon months. Adventure activities such as swimming are restricted during the monsoon months.

The site is located on to the I.N.S. Shivaji road and hence can be reached by tourists by boarding the buses plying on this road.

"Waterfall on stairs"

  • 6.0/7
  • Posted 2 months ago
It is the first kind of lake with step waterfall I have ever seen. Need to cross two small lakes to reach to the waterfall. On weekend, it is mostly crowded. Snacks are served on the Waterfall. I went in September, the weather was quiet good that point of time. It feels awesome to lie down on the stairs and get drenched in the over flooded dam water. People charge Rs 20 for changing clothes.

"Refreshing Visit"

  • 5.0/7

Bushy dam is situated near Lonavala, road leading to which are snakey and worth driving. One has to cross a pond like stretch to reach bushy dam so wear only slippers. Do not wear shoes. Alternatively slippers are available on rent.

Bushy dam has a reservoir and water flows through a number of steps giving it a beautiful and refreshing look. Carry extra pair of clothes if one wants to indulge in bathing.

Overall worth visit, especially during Monsoon.

A major attraction during monsoon, a must be place to visit in Monsoon. Very crowded during weekends so plan in advance and reach there early morning. Very pleasant climate to be with family and friends. Carry some warm clothes and additional pair of clothes as you will need it after a refreshing Bath under the waterfalls.

Bhushi Dam is one of the best places to visit in monsoon near Mumbai! Located approximately at a distance of 90 km from Mumbai, Bhushi dam is an awesome place to hangout when it is raining heavily & the dam is overflowing.

"Good weekend getaway"

  • 4.5/7
  • Posted Jul 21, 2016
Bushy Dam is located a few kilometers from Lonavala and is a very popular weekend hangout. When the Bushy dam overflows, the water flows over a steps and then over some easily accessible rocky terrain. The terrain and the water make for a fun combination and this is why Bushy dam gets extremely crowded on weekend. So crowded, that a first time visitor would be left searching for the steps which everyone talks about, only to realize that every inch of the steps have been occupied.

One should only visit this place in monsoon when it overflow. Enjoy relaxing moments with tea and corn. However, for visitors who are travelling with little kids /toddlers need attention, because of rain in monsoon and handling in water and rocky pathways. Not to wear leather shoes/ heels. Slipper are OK.

"Must visit in Monsoon"

  • 1.0/7
  • Posted May 9, 2016
The time we visited was in the month of May, which was a dry, drought season with literally no water in the Dam. We were slightly disappointed as we could not enjoy the beauty of this place. No visitors during this month. Its better to visit this destination in the monsoon season as there will be plenty of water.

"Bushy Dam is good during monsoon"

  • 4.5/7
  • Posted Mar 28, 2016
We decided to go to Lonavala in December since it was our wedding anniversary. We visited Bhushi Dam on day one. It is a great place during the monsoons, but we got a good view of the dam and the river besides it. The steps beside the dam was calm. The tourist were limited as it was not season to visit Bhushi Dam. Also there are shops alongside the dam who sell Golas, Bhuttas, etc. We sat beside the river and had our Golas. We enjoyed our sunny day beside the river having gola and Bhuttas. Clicking pictures was another activity which we did not miss. That took most of our time while our hired rickshaw was waiting for us to return back.

We did not find any security or guide who can help the people since it was off season visit.

I would suggest people visit this place during monsoon. But you want to avoid the crowd then off season is preferred. That would reduce the cost as well.

"Just a dam"

  • 3.0/7

Bushy Dam is just like any other dam. Nothing much to do over here apart from checking out the dam. Can't understand why this place is always crowded with tourists (Traffic jam very common here). Not worth all the fuss.

"Popular weekend destination"

  • 5.0/7

Bhushi Dam, Lonavala is a very popular weekend destination for people from Mumbai and Pune. If you want to treat yourself with cool water, warm sunshine and the vibes of nature then the Bhushi Dam is the best place for you in Monsoon season. Please remember, Swimming is prohibited in this dam due to inconsistent flow of the water however one can always enjoy on steps and rocky land followed by steps.
