About Calangute Beach

67%
voted as clean

Calangute Beach is the first beach where the hippie culture flourished in the late 1960s and early 1970s. The beach is situated at a distance of about 18.4 km from Bardez. It is surrounded by Baga Beach on its northern side and the village of Candolim Beach on its southern side.

This beach stretches from Calangute towards Baga and ends at Candolim. Calangute Beach is known for the popular flea market from where travellers can purchase various items like bags, handicrafts, jewellery, clothes and various other items.

Lush green bushes, golden sand dunes and tamarisk trees enhance the beauty of the beach. Calangute Beach has several nightspots and restaurants serving varied cuisines. Travellers can also visit the famous St. Alex Church, known for its beautiful towers and dome. November to February is the ideal time to visit the beach.

It was full, the beach had receded from my last visit to this place. The beach was as crowded with people, shacks, restaurants, vendors, hippies, Madrasis, Punjabis, you name it they were there.

"Good beach with activities"

Its a good clean beach with available water activities. You need to secure your electronic gadgets if you are planning to do water activities. Food stalls are close by and plenty of them.

"Dirty Beach, shops on the shores, water sports"

  • 1.00/7

The beach was very dirty, it was not maintained properly. You will get packets of junk food, wood etc while you go near the beach. The water sports are good on the beach. The nearby market is also good for shopping.

"Shopping spots are also nearby"

  • 4.50/7

It was fine for shopping but as a beach, it was not much clean and changing rooms were not available. You must take pics while shopping here. You are not allowed to go far in the off season and no water sports.

We enjoyed a lot as we had a very thrilling experience through motorbike riding and boating. Kids can do swimming and enjoy the sea water and mild waves along with the parents.

Beach for families and to get a hold of normal beaches all around the place. Too crowded and did not like the way it was. Shops nearby to purchase and foods to taste. Worth once to visit.

"The queen of beaches"

  • 4.00/7
  • Posted Apr 15, 2014
There is a lot of hype around Calangute, and saddly a lot of it is unwarranted. With exceptionally huge crowds and not a gentle sloping beach, this best of this beach can be felt only in the monsoons. If you are in peak season, try moving midway between Calangute and Candolim.
