Calicut Gate Hotel Overview
Calicut Gate Hotel Reviews (17)
A nice place to get away from it all. Staff is very responsive and accommodating. They had carefully kept part of my electric kettle which I had forgotten there during a previous visit. The main city is at a distance but the hotel is well connected by bus or auto. There are plenty of shops and eateries around but none too fancy. The restaurant serves decent food and Mr. Nasir and Mr Ashok Dutta take good care of diners.
The overall, experience of the hotel was good. The transportation facility was not provided by the hotel. The appearance of the hotel was nice. The staff were well-behaved in the hotel. The room service was on time at the hotel. There was all the facility provided in the room in working condition. The Wi-Fi facility was not provided in the hotel. There was no activity arranged by the hotel.
I had visited this hotel with my family for personal trip. The room price was reasonable at the hotel. I would recommend this hotel to upcoming travellers. The behaviour of the hotel staff's was fine at the hotel. The parking place was available in the hotel. The overall experience was good at the hotel.
Set in a very humble part of Kozhikode, the hotel does not look very promising from the outside. However, if you are in need of rest and homely pampering, this is an undiscovered gem. The staff were absolutely first class and you will find it a quaint and peaceful place if you want to escape from it all for a few days. Given that the weather was very hot and there was not much to explore on foot, in the immediate vicinity, you can enjoy tasty local food and even the odd variation of Continental or North Indian or other World cuisine on request. As for the rest of the day, you can lol in absolute sloth in a fairly comfortable room, with comfortable Air-Conditioning, hot water for a relaxing bath and catch up on TV viewing or read a selection of newspapers from what's on offer at the reception area. If you find the toilet flush or Air-Conditioning giving some trouble, the issue will be attended to with great speed and efficiency. The room cleaners were hard working and will ensure that your room is spic and span in the blink of an eye and with friendly smiles and cheerful efficiency. The hotel has a bar which is very delicately positioned so that the inmates and the patrons of the bar do not need to cross each other. Thus, if you like your liquor, you can go to the conveniently located bar and have some beer and some very tasty snacks. I recommend the batter fried anchovies. It is not a place for women though, so if you are of the female persuasion, do ensure that you have a strong, sensible and grounded male partner, preferably a Malayalee to accompany you. Again, should you be in search of an exotic experience, just across the hotel there is a Toddy place, set in a rustic and verdant nook. The toddy is fantastic and so are the snacks. But you will have to brave many tipsy red eyes if you chose to go across and get yourself some fine toddy to have in the cool decency of your room and that is not the least of the dangers. The hotel sits next to a narrow Highway and the traffic has no regard for anything. Right next to the hotel, to your right as you exit is a little supermarket which, mostly has anything you might require. Since the main city was quite far away, I bought some halwas and fish pickles from there and they were pretty good. A tender coconut halwa was outstanding. The manager, Mr. Manoj Babu was extremely decent and helpful. The Maitre D, Mr. Nasir, was worth his weight in gold. He will ensure that you get to eat just what you want with reasonable notice and will look after you with tender elegance. What more could one ask for when one weary night, we could get a hot khichadi? This is a 5 star experience of hospitality at a very reasonable price. For me, I could get some well-earned rest and catch up on reading.
If you are looking to have a great time in the city, then the Calicut Gate hotel is the place to be. Ideally located close to all the major tourist attractions, the food is delicious especially the local Calicut special biryani. The rooms are very cosy and comfy. Rooms service is fine. The main attraction is the location of the hotel.
The gate hotel is situated in Calicut easy to reach from Calicut railway station and from Karipoor International Airport. The exterior look of hotel is in my way not at all good but the rooms and other services are quite impressive. The service persons and management are very friendly and good in personality. The food and drinks are very good with Kerala, Chinese and western dishes with low cost. Security was also impressive. The Kerala food is very spicy. The room is just awesome its like to sleep in my home. From gateway Calicut, I got brilliant experience from the entertainment program from there thus I'm really satisfied from gateway hotel Calicut.

Good location! Ideal to have a relaxing time. It has tasty and delicious food. Rooms are all spacious and hygienic. Located at a short distance from all the major tourist attractions. The rooms are not heavily priced. It can surely fit into anyone's budget. Surely, I will come here again.
