It was expensive but worth the price to stay in such a hotel. The food was really the best thing there and the room service and hospitality was the major part that made the best of the hotel. The place or the locality was really heart warming and gave a warmth feeling too.

The Hotel Calicut Tower is a average kind of hotel. I visited this hotel for official purpose, the rooms provided were not good & AC was not working properly. The welcome from the reception was good. The staff people were not co-operative. Overall my experience at the hotel was not so great. I would not like to visit this hotel any more.

This report is written based on the requirement for a budget hotel under international standard. I am originally from Kerala and currently a long-time resident of the U.S., and I have been staying in this budget hotel (for up to one month) since 1990s in A/C rooms. At that time, food was good. My recent stay in this hotel was in January 2013. The renovated rooms are overpriced compared with other such hotels. Cheap, torn and old linens (cotton blankets, sheets, towels, tetc.) were provided in the recently renovated rooms. The complimentary breakfast is very bad, prepared by non-Keralites--everyday the same items are served. The quality of breakfast items are tasteless and bad quality, even compared with Thattu Kadas. I never had such inferior quality of breakfast from any restaurants in Kerala, even at very small wayside restaurants, while traveling throughout Kerala. At the A/C and non-AC buffet lunch, customers use the same plate when taking more food and the serving spoons touch the used food on plates of customers. The hotel management said they are afraid to request the customers to use new plate every time they want more food, assuming that they would the lose customers. The front office personnel tell the customers that the laundry is done at machines. In fact, the laundry is done on the roof of the hotel or by outside washers in Muthalakkulam Maithaani (under unhygienic conditions) in open space. Often the clothes are damaged due to excessive use of washing powder. The hotel does not have its own Web site. E-mails of feedback sent to a Yahoo address are not responded by the General Manager. It shows very poor customer service. The management must take drastic steps, such as hiring more hotel employees, maintaining good hygiene, creating a good customer-friendly Web site, etc., if the hotel wants to be included in travel or hotel-related lists.

Best Experience: I noticed the General Manager and department managers wearing attractive formal wear, which I never noticed in other high-rated hotels in Kerala.

Worst Experience: The lobby is not air-conditioned though it is a very large area. The hotel allow Arab and other customers to sit around, eat and leave everything in lobby tables. The only one elevator, which is very small for a hotel, is not maintained well. There were shortage of employees which severely affected the service. Guests have to carry an inconvenient key as the room doors do not have electronic or modern credit-card size keys. Since there are no glass doors at the entrance of lobby, one could notice mosquitoes and flies. My expensive pants were damaged as a result of using excessive washing powder and the hotel did not reimburse for it. This is a common issue in some of the hotels in Kerala, though I requested the Housekeeping staff not to use excessive washing powder. Even if deluxe rooms are available vacant, the hotel does not offer customers an upgrade or discount (a common problem in Indian hotels) for late arriving customers and thus lose revenue

It is situated in the centre of the city. It has good access to the shopping malls. The reception of the hotel was good. The foods were good. Regarding the parking facilities, we had little bit difficulty. But the overall rating was good.

Best Experience: Receptions of the hotel

Worst Experience: Not so particular
