Top Reviews of The Carlton
The Carlton, located right inside Kodaikanal town, features lush lawns and gardens which create the relaxing ambience that one expects in a hill station. The room was spacious and well appointed - comfortable beds and furniture, TV, DVD player, iron and board, room heater, tea/coffee making facility, mini safe, fridge (empty, not a mini bar), hair dryer and fairly good toiletries. The highlight was the spacious balcony which overlooked the lake from which can watch the as the waters shimmer, ripple and reflect the sun and the clouds at different times of the day. It's the perfect place to sit all day with a book and /or a drink Though the food was middling and was a bit of a disappointment though, after a small chat, Chef Krishnan ensured that we got a nice dish or two during each meal. To ensure that families have a good time on their holidays, they provide entertainment every evening - tombola and folk dances while we were there. The hotel has shikaras and bicycles as well as a gymnasium for the guests to use. The kids club has enough activities to keep the youngsters busy all day. The location makes it convenient for a nice walk around the lake, if you start out before the buses, SUVs, horses and bicycles take over .. Service was always prompt, polite, enthusiastic and friendly and the rare hitches were caused by s couple of trainees being a bit weak in English. Ratheesh, in the restaurant, was alert to all our needs and added considerably to our dining experience. The terrain is such that are quite a lot of stairs linking the different areas, older people will do well to opt for a room that does need much climbing. The Carlton is a bot expensive but it is well worth especially the balcony overlooking the lake.
The Carlton is quite worthy of its reputation of being the best resort/ hotel in Kodaikanal, a position it has held for a long time. The location is pretty, just adjacent to Kodai lake and the resort itself is spread over a large area, beautifully landscaped and impressively laid out. The mix of activities available for a family with kids is amazing, from the boat club that offers \'shikara\' rides to a cycling rink with bicyles for all ages, badminton, table tennis, hammocks all around, an activity room with lots to do, a reasonable library, and lovely play area for toddlers too. The health club/ spa is good, although the peak season rush made any treatments a bit of a rushed affair. The staff is courteous and helpful--geared to meet all your needs!
Good Hotel to spend with family and friends. Worth for money. Excellent place to stay. Food was good. Staff service was good. Hotel ambiance is very nice. Located in the main place, very closer to all the sightseeing. Overall we had a very pleasant stay.
I spent my Honeymoon at Kodaikanal during mid February 2015. The place was just amazing with Lush Green Hills all around. The treks to Dolphin peak is wonderful and views are beautiful. Food is great and chocolates are just heavenly. You can find home-made chocolates all around and can taste them for free at all outlets. They are mouth watering delicious and yet very cheap with great variety available from Belgium Dark Chocolates to local fruity ones. Various activities like hiking, trekking, cycling, boating can be done in Kodaikanal. In all it makes a perfect holiday destination for every kind of tourist from honeymooners like us to family, kids, elders etc. For reaching Kodaikanal, train can be taken up-to Madurai, Kodai road or Coimbatore stations. And from there taxi or buses (4 to 5 hours) direct to Kodaikanal. Alternatively Madurai, Coimbatore can be reached by air.
The location of this hotel was good. There was no difficulty to reach the hotel. The stay was very good in this hotel. Non veg food was very good. Appearance was very good from inside and outside. There was Mountain View from the room. All the basic amenities were there in the room and all were working properly. The room was also very spacious and good. There was no delay during check-in and check-out procedure. Aurvedic massage was there in the hotel, but it was chargeable. The swimming pool was also there, but we didn't use it. Sightseeing trip was arranged by the hotel. The Wi-FI facility was there in the hotel, but we didn't use. It was value for money hotel and I would like to recommend this hotel.
