Chail Sightseeing - Chail Palace

Chail was created as a summer palace by Maharaja Bhupinder Singh of Patiala. The picturesque little village is situated about 2226 m above Shimla and is surrounded by breathtaking Deodar forests on all sides. Few people know that Chail is actually built on three hills. And, like most places in Himachal Pradesh, Chail has lots to do for both the history conscious tourist as well as the activity seeker. The Chail Palace is another spectacular must-see. It is a true reflection of the Maharaja's flamboyant personality. The palace perches so precariously on the hilltop that it seems to float in the clouds. Pine trees and Deodar trees seem to add a natural trimming. You can also stay in the palace as it is now a well-run hotel with many rooms, tennis courts, billiards and even a children's park. Driving in Chail is a truly remarkable experience as all roads lead through orchards bursting with fruit or fragrant forests. Do walk up to the Chail Palace.
