About Chand Baori

Chand Baori, situated in Abhaneri in proximity of Bhandarej, was constructed in the 10th century. It is a huge 100 ft deep well that consists of steps on three sides. This baori was built by Raja Chand or Chandra, who was the Nikumbh Rajput of Chauhan dynasty. The baori is known for its architectural style that comprises pillared verandahs and square plan.

Tourists can also see the idols of Mahishasura Mardini and Lord Ganesha placed in the projected niches. Besides, the idols of Ganesha, Vishnu and Shiva excavated from the premises of Harshat Mata Temple are also placed in the verandahs. This area has been converted into museum by Archaeological Survey of India.
