"Loads of animals and this is how kids get to learn"

  • 5.5/7

I visited this place on my way back from Kasauli. Its a pretty good place to visit for a family outing. For people who would love to see wild animals, and can't make it to multiple national forests, then this is your place. Some of the most rarest of the species such as The Royal White Bengal Tiger(National Animal) or the White Peacock (National Bird) or maybe Zebra(only visible in story books these days) can be sighted with close proximity. Moreover large number of Deer, Blue Bull, Elephants with real ivory teeth(rare sight) etc etc can be seen. Groups of Leopards, panther ,black bear, hyenas, many nocturnal animals can be sighted. Its a great palce to take your kids along, great learning experience for them. Try to avoid going on public holidays as getting a battery car becomes tough.

Best way to go around is to take a battery car Rs. 50/person which takes you around the zoo(quite huge 7-8km walk) stops at all cages and allows you to click pictures and all. Then to add to the adventure is the Lion Safari, where they take you in a small bus, so the cool thing is unlike the other zoos, the Lions are there in the open and its you who gets caged in the bus. They stop besides the Lions to so that you can have a good look and take as many pics.
It would take 3-4 hours for the entire visit. Its a good experience. You can also take a cycle ride if you are with friends. Winter would be a good time to visit.

Chattbir zoo is a well maintained zoo where you will find animals from all over the world. It is spread on a very large forest area and that is the reason why here animals get to stay in their natural habitat. Kids will definitely like this place. There is provision of food as well. You can easily spend a day here and I promise you will not be able to cove the whole place even then. Must visit place for wildlife enthusiasts.
