Chikmagalur food, sight-seeing and shopping options
Food was nice in the restaurant attached to the hotel in Kadur. The hotel is an economy one charging Rs.550 per day. On 26th we visited Kemmangundi Hills, Baba Budan giri, Kalathgiri or Kalahatti Falls, Bhadra Dam etc. And retired to hotel in the evening around 7 P.M. On 27th we just planned to visit Hebbe Falls, the road is very bad and you need to board the jeep to go there. We had Qualis, however except jeep you cannot go there. So getting into 1 jeep was time consuming. We were 6 people. So around 2 p.m we got one jeep and went there. We had a bath in the falls after trekking down, crossing 3 streams. Oh, it was slippery and we have to be very careful to cross them. But it was wonderful and refreshing to get a bath over there, its quite a good experience. On our way back, it was already 5:30 p.m, going to be dark, and also it was raining heavily, we had our tire punctured. And it was a funny scene. The road is terrific and only one vehicle can go, there are turning points from where 2 vehicles can pass but they are very few. So if any vehicle comes on our way either one has to go back to give another vehicle space.S o all the vehicles were jammed and there is a long que in the hill because of our vehicle. So many people got down there to help our vehicle move so that the road gets free. It was already 6 p.m. And ultimately the tyre was replaced and we reached Kemmangundi. We changed our dress in the Qualis. It was already dark and around &p.m. We were damn hungry. We ate snacks there and started for Bangalore. We ate dinner on our way at 8:30 P.M.

Hotel Review of Taj Garden Retreat, Chikmagalur
Comments: Overall, pleasant experience since we had gone out after a long time and for the first time with our daughter. Although we had a booking for a double bed room, we got a 4-bed room which was huge and my daughter used it luxuriously as her play area. :-)
In terms of activities, it was pretty sad... just a small gym, a TT table, and a small snooker table in the bar which itself was so cramped.
Food was very average... not too much of variety... average taste...
Best Experience: Hospitality and service is something that we found to be very good... Small things like the food that they provided for the kid on request was very well done with lots of add- ons... Right from the security guy who checked our vehicle at the main entrance to the folks at the reception and in the restaurant were always on their toes to provide the best experience to us.
Worst Experience: This was not expected in a Taj property and could be due to a miscommunication, but still I am highlighting it...
As we checked in into the hotel, we asked for a thermometer to check our daughter's body temperature. They said that they do not have one. This itself was a big surprise.
Then we get a calll saying that fortunately their staff was at the market and that they have asked him to buy a thermometer. Again a call to say that we would be required to pay for the thermometer. :-)
This made us furious and we called up the manager there who apologised about the whole episode.
But post that, the next 2 days were very different in terms of the efforts that the entire team made to make our stay pleasant.

Hotel Review of Taj Garden Retreat, Chikmagalur
My overall experience was very good. I was able to take care of my 6 month old kid quite comfortably at the resort. I liked the ambience very much, quite cool on the hill top, no pollution, no one to disturb your senses, play with the kid, enjoy nature… that’s what I call a BREAK FROM ROUTINE LIFE. Even though the journey was 6 hours from Bangalore, the atmosphere at the retreat was enough for us to shrug off...
