Chikmagalur food, sight-seeing and shopping options
Frankly to say there aren't much to talk about shopping, food in this region. The Hotel where I stayed (Vasant Vihar in the city)had restaurant attached with Bar. The food is good here and if you are with family its better to get room service . One of the thing you can buy there is some ayurvedic herbs and medicines at manikyadhara near Datthapeeta (Baba bundengiri). There are few stalls put up there and they will give you samples to try. One thing to try is Jungle ka Meswak :) . (Try and let me know if you liked it :)).

Hotel Review of Wood Way Estate
Comments: In one word, our experience at Woodway was AWESOME! The website suggested a pretty location but one is always a little uncertain with internet bookings. Anyway, we had a nightmarish start, with the distance to Neelmangala taking 5 hrs instead of the regular 90 min. We decided to call & inform Woodway we would not be making it to lunch. The owners were away, but Shreedev's mother was very helpful. Gave us directions to a good veg hotel with clean toilets where we could lunch. Later, as we were approaching Chikmagalur, we were wondering, when do we start the climb?! Mrs Hulikere was once again, very gracious & guided the driver on the phone, even informing us when the mobile network would desert us! Soon after we left Chikmagalur town, we started our climb up the narrow, wooded hill road, coffee plantations on both sides.
By the time we reached Woodway, it was 6 in the evening. The bungalow is quaint, the view mind-blowing! The rooms are clean & well-furnished. Running hot & cold water is available in the bathroom but could do with a little touch-up. Fireplace in every room with comfortable chairs around it. Very nice.
We woke up to a misty morning the next day. Woodway was covered with clouds. Simply amazing ambience! We were told Chikmagalur is beautiful year round. I'm glad we went there during Monsoon!
Food is served at a main dining hall which is away from the main building. There is a fixed menu that is served buffet. The cuisine is mostly local. Wholesome. The dining area is open, nice during breakfast & lunch but can get quite chilly at night. Room service is limited.
There is an arrangement for drivers' food & accommodation at extra cost.
The best thing about Woodway is the wilderness. We were simply cut-off from civilization, or shall I say urbanization! Mobile network is limited. Works only outside, in the lawn. Thank God for that! The personalized service is very welcome. The owners do not live at Woodway but are there most of the time overseeing the operations.
Some photos highlighting our stay. To end, the website does full justice to Woodway Homestay!

Hotel Review of Wood Way Estate
I and my wife had a great experience @ WoodWay Estate. Our experience in WoodWay amidst coffee plantation, a huge bungalow, rains, great food, fire place and excellent coffee all day made this one of our best and memorable trips. Location of the estate is just awesome; with stunning peaks in the background and coffee plantations below. As it is far away from the town there is absolutely no noise or air pollution. Roads from Bangalore to the estate were good...

Hotel Review of Wood Way Estate
The overall experience of our stay @ Wood Way Estate was fantastic!! Service of the entire staff was of the highest standards, much above expectations as compared to other star hotels that i stayed in earlier during our other vacations. It was a management outgoing organized from office and i must hoenstly admit that we were proud of our choice. The place about 5-6 hours from Blore, with decent roads... Great location, some great food for a relaxed holiday. Must visit...

If you are looking for a hutke destination for a vacation , Chikmanglore (Karnataka) is a very good option to relax & enjoy the nature. But watch out there are No Shopping Malls & No Gaming Zones Only NATURE at its best. Charming & Blooming There are 2-3 Good Hotels including The Taj & lot of Home Stays. But NONE like The WOODWAY. [ http://www.woodwayhomestay.com/ ] I visited in November 2008 with my wife and daughter. We love traveling & especially we drive...

We had a good time at this place. Three families with 3 kids. The view is breathtaking in the morning. The caretaker will take you through the coffee estate and run you through some interesting anecdotes!! Sridhar who runs the place is a great guy...gives you perfect directions and ensures you try and get most comforts....even while he was sitting in Bangalore on this instane!!...

Hotel Review of Wood Way Estate
The place is wonderful - be sure to reach by daytime as the fog gets dense during the evenings and its difficult to drive and find the place. The fog actually adds to the beauty of the place. Food and service is excellent. Rooms are spacious and there is plenty of place in the common area for kids to entertain themselves in case you are house bound due to the rains....
