The
Chinmaya Mission was started by Balakrishnan Menon, a young journalist who met
spiritual masters like Swami Sivananda and from there began a search for
meaning. One of the greatest exponents of Vedanta the world has ever known, the
Swami has set up several trusts, schools and meditation centres all over India.
Chinamaya Tapovan Ashram is named after his guru Swami Tapovan and is also a
centre for the Chinmaya Rural Primary Health and Training Centre. The ashram is
on the banks of River Bindu Saras and offers an ambience of tranquillity and
calm. Discourse and classes are available should you want to experience the Swamis
teachings and his shrine is also at the Ashram marking his resting place. Short
courses on the Gita can be taken and health workers are trained to help rural
people living around the ashram. A nine foot high statue of Lord Hanuman stands
at the gate, spreading his special message of loyalty and bravery. A bookshop
provides books, CDs, music and other things. Located in the scenic Himalayan
mountain ranges, with its cool climes and fresh air, far away from the madness
of city life, the ashram provides the environment necessary for meditation,
spiritual fulfilment and introspection. People in search for spiritual succour
make their way to this ashram from all across the country and the world. The
ashram also holds short duration courses on the holy Gita (the sacred book of
the Hindus), and trains health workers to look after the health needs of the
villagers living in the Kangra valley. Just experience the feeling of peace in
the ashram is enough to leave you in a better mood, so if you have the time,
let your mind rest, if only for a few moments. |

Mcleodganj in Dec 21- 28 2008 | | Plesae help me here
1 – CROWD
Generally I always do mid dec or feb in a Himalayan area, but this time ive been stuck in tourist week. Have you traveled to Mcleodganj from 23rd Dec Tue to 28th Dec Sun ? Is it very crowded ?
I chose Mcleodganj because I heard it less crowded than other Indian Hill stations in this tourist week, as it is far for travelers, and it has its own tourist weeks by the budhist calendar, so its not necessary that it will be jammed by forigners either. Is that true ?
The important thing is to get a hotel I like – then the price so I like to land up, survey, bargain and stay. I never book in advance. Do you suggest I book in advance ?
Is Naddi Udeechi huts area less crowded than Mcleodganj ?
2 SNOW – is there a chance of snowfall in that time ?
3 – Can you choose between these hotels ? I want a heritage type old world charm hotel, or natural beauty kind of cottages, reasonably priced, and ill have my own car, so I can be a bit away. But for the kids it would be nice to be in walking distance of everything. Plus Id look for something reasonable – I generally pay Rs 2000 a night in Feb ( maybe ill have to shell out more because of the season )
Udeechi Huts, Surya, Dev Hotels, Clouds End, Asia Health, Glenmor, Snowview
4 – I will be a few days in Dalhousie too, is Dalhousie more quieter, more green and better views – just your opinion ? | | Treks from Dharamshala and Weather in November | | Hi,
I am planning to spend a week in Mcleodganj in the end of November. I would like to know about the weather in the place around that time. What are the temperatures, possibility of rain etc.
I am also interested in knowing about possible day treks from there and nearby villages that are worth visiting.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Regards,
