The Serai, Kabini

Kabini is located about 100 km from Mysore (near Nagarhole). We chose this place because of the time constraint (just a weekend) and we did not want to travel to far. The constraints seemed like a blessing once we reached there. The location of the resort is SERENE. The Serai is a 5 star property owned by Coffee Estate located along the Kabini Dam, tucked away from the hustle bustle of city life. This resort offers 3 types of Villas - Water front Villa, Verandah Villa and The Residence. We chose The Residence which can easily accommodate 4 people in the Villa. This Villa has a private balcony and a private JACUZZI!! (Another reason why I chose this Villa). The beds / mattress were great. We had to order for 2 extra mattress (Which was as perfect as the bed). The Serai property is huge (about 11 acres) and one needs a cycle to move around. The Resort provides a small van alternatively. The food is delicious (though expensive). But it seems like the best option around the place. The staff is extremely courteous. Paneer Tikka gravy is a must try. Serai offers a complimentary coracle ride on the Kabini Waters and organizes Jungle Safari and Water Safari (About INR 1200 per head per safari). Water Safari is recommended as it certainly was to spot Elephants taking bath in the Kabini River. Kabini is home to a variety of colorful birds (which again can be easily spotted during the Water Safari). If you are lucky enough, you can spot Tigers during the Land Safari. It is a haven for photographers. My advise would be to plan a 2 night, 3 day holiday here (We were here only for a night). Plan your safaris well so that you get a chance to do both the Land and Water Safari. We expected the private Jacuzzi to be filled with hot water (which would be cherry on the cake). Unfortunately Serai does not offer this facility.
My wife and I drove from Bangalore to Kabini to celebrate our anniversary. The serai had been suggested by some of our friends and the first sight of the place told us why. Nestled amongst greenery, this resort owned by the Cafe Coffee Day people is like a paradise. The approach road was recently laid and we had a comfortable drive. Staff were extremely courteous and we were shown our deluxe river facing room which had a personal space with a hammock in front of it. They have golf karts to shuttle people from the reception to their room. For exercise freaks like me, cycles are also available to move around the resort. The best thing was that there was no TV in the room and that allowed us to enjoy the beautiful surroundings. I enjoy photography and I could spot more than 40 species of birds in our three days there. Food was of the best quality and they had ample of variety for both vegetarians and non-vegetarians. they offered us a complimentary cake on our anniversary as well. The land and river safaris were an absolute delight, although arranged by the government, the entire experience was amazing. In the resort, we enjoyed the complimentary Kayaking in the river. We even tried our hand at archery during our stay. They have bonfires during the night along with music. Overall we had a blast and would love to go there again. I have been recommending the place to all my friends and family members.
I have no words how to express my review about- Kabini Resort, simply all I can say wow!!!wow!!wow!!!what a resort!!!!awesome resort I had never ever visited this kind of resort in my whole life. Perfect place with full of amenities. In June I went there for my honeymoon, but I got superb service with a superb food quality. By religion I am jain vaniya so I never eat potato and onion, but I got superb quality Jain food. Hotel staff was also kind and helpful always ready to help. Room cleanliness was also very good and I got river view from my room balcony. So I prefer another traveller to go to Kabini and please take a stay in this resort.
I rate this as one of my top travel experiences ever. The knowledge of the guides was top notch. The hospitality of the entire staff was amazing. I felt as though I had a staff of 10 catering only to me. I felt as though I were a friend and of course consider myself now as a friend. the time at the resort was extremely peaceful and relaxing. The food was excellent and the staff in general conversatin came to know some of my favorites and had the chef prepare that at the next meal. Even when I left they prepared a meal for me to take on the road, which was delicious and worked out quite nicely. The jungle safari was one of my best wildlife experiences. I have traveled to 5 continents and spent time in many USA national parks including Yellowstone and Denali (the \"Serengethi of the North\"). I could go on and on about several wonderful aspects of my stay at Kapila. One additioanl aspect was the value for the money. the cost of the entire weekend including automobile travel, safaris and food and room, tip etc. was less than a single day room rate at a bangalore hotel!
Cicada Now taken over by The Serai, closely has observed and preserved the natural looks of the resort amidst the Jungle ( quite an exciting one). The staff have b courteuos and kind enough to take care of every small bit to comfort the guests they accomodate. The are quite wll done in terms of maintaining the natural beauty with some exciting activities for the kids. Cycle rides are free and just made me return to my chindhood days.
