City Palace Museum provides an insight into the culture and history of the Maharanas of Mewar. Opened in 1969, the museum displays royal family photographs. The museum was opened to the public, in order to generate income and maintain the building, after India became a democracy.

Overseen by the Maharana of Mewar Charitable Foundation, the museum also houses personal portraits of Shriji Arvind Singh Mewar. Artworks, which document royal history before Udaipur got its first camera in 1857, adorn the interior of the museum.
