"5 star for Weather 4 star for Property"

5.6/7
Posted 21 Feb

The property is 5 hours drive from the Cochin airport. I stayed at CM Thekkady in 1 BR from 13th February 2017 to 16th February 2017 with my wife and 3-year-old daughter. Check In & Check Out - Was very smooth. The Property - Superb Location between the nature and cosy climate. Rooms - Very spacious with balcony but NO Privacy. Amenities - Swimming Pool - Good, Gym-Average, SPA-Good. Staff - Friendly & helpful. Restaurant - Acceptable. Food - As usual very costly compare to quality. Local cuisines not available. Better try nearby hotels for authenticated local food. House Keeping - Very good. Travel Desk - used but little costlier than outside taxi. Activity Centre - Gavi Jeep Safari. Fun Zone - Good. Other Activity - Not much. Nearby - Kumily Market, Periyar Tiger Reserve. Places we visited: 1) Periyar Lake Boat Ride. 2) Gavi Safari through CM. 3) Elephant Ride. 4) Shopping Other Information: No Bar in the property or nearby. One can buy from government operating beverages which is 2 kms away (closed on every 1st of the month. As per the state government policy, liquor will be served on in 4 or 5 star hotels.

"Ideal get away"

6.7/7
Posted 6 Sep, 2016

Resort is located on the fringes of Periyar Tiger Reserve and brings one closer to Nature. It is spread over 3 acres of pure greenery and abounds in various plants including natural spices like Pepper, Cardamom, Clove etc; Jack Fruit tress are aplenty and when we visited it was the season. Being located on the fringes of the forest means you sight long tailed Squirrel, Black Monkeys etc; in the resort itself. The Resort has 44 rooms each set apart from each other and each are named after the animals. Rooms are neat and clean with all amenities in keeping with the standards of Club Mahindra. The staff is very helpful and go out of the way to look after you. Activities in charge was very good and guided and organised our trips to places very well and economically. Service is of very high standard.

"Just the place for a relaxed holiday in the lap of nature"

5.9/7
Posted 11 Jun, 2015

Club Mahindra Thekkady, is in a beautiful settck pepper vines, bamboo reeds and coconut and much else. It's like living in a cottage in the middle of a bio diverse plantation. The vegetation and the well maintained grounds make you feel relaxed as soon as you enter the resort. The resort is called Tusker Trails and they have made an effort to get the elephant integrated into the theme. Our cottage had a stained glass window featuring a baby elephant -- as the sun came out, the little tusker hovered into view. When he was brightly lit, you knew it was time to get out of bed! While they try to accommodate senior citizens in a couple of the easy to reach cottages, others should be ready to walk up some mild slopes to reach their cottage. Only the restaurant is brightly done up in Club Mahindra's signature colours. The rooms are done up in muted rosewood tones in the Kerala style. The rooms are spacious, clean, well-furnished and very comfortable and feature coffee/tea making facilities. The bathrooms are good too, with bath gel and shampoo being the only toiletries. The veranda is a nice place to have your coffee and enjoy the greenery. You only have to be careful not leave odds and ends lying around as the local monkeys may sometimes help themselves. The lone restaurant is rather expensive for Thekkady but if you choose the packages, with member and senior citizen discounts it becomes a bit easier on the pocket. A la carte tends to be slow and room service is charged extra, has a limited menu and can take a long time coming. Fortunately, the resort is in the middle of the town and you can easily stroll down to a number of eating places which are less expensive. Hotel Ambadi, almost next door, serves typical Kerala food at a little more than half the price. They do not have a bar you need to go to a wine and beer place or a government run liquor shop in the town. They have a spa and shops where you can buy souvenirs. The resorts activity crew do a lot to keep children (and adults) entertained. No kid can say that he or she is bored. The staff are very polite, friendly and helpful.

"A memorable stay in Tusker Trails"

6.8/7
Posted 21 Sep, 2015

We had such a memorable stay for 3 nights at this resort. The first thing the resort inspired us is the hospitality by the staff. Right from the day one till the time we checkout they served with the same smile and personal care. Next is the theme of the resort, the cottages are designed in such a way that you feel you are living in a real forest huts. Each cottages are named with the name of an animal or a bird, surrounded with the greeneries around, woke up with the sounds of birds and monkeys. Walking to the cottage itself felt like a trek inside the forest. Especially my son enjoyed the fun activities they provided and they gave training on glass painting flower making etc. Which we felt we are learning something new in our leisure time. In a short I can say the stay is an awesome and a memorable one. The only suggestion is to get an ATM inside the resort complex as there is no ATM nearby you need to walk at least a half kilometres.

"Awesome property for stay & located in remote area"

5.5/7
Posted 10 Nov, 2015

The Club Mahindra property at Thekkady is just 10 mins away from the entry point of Periyar WildLife Sanctuary. But if you would like to do the Night Safari you have to travel around 90 kms from where the night safari starts as the core area is obviously very remotely located inside the sanctuary. From the entry point of the wild life sanctuary you can get into Ferry that will take you on the Periyar Lake which is one of the biggest man made lakes and is simply marvellous. We went during monsoons which was such a big waste. One should go during summer as it is obvious that during summer the wild animals don't get water to drink near their habitation which is very inside and they come to the banks of this lake for their water and that would be a sight to watch-out for. We could see herd of Elephants at a far away place and the boat could not be taken closer to that bank of the lake. Anyways a good and different experience. Club Mahindra property is an erstwhile Taj property and the rooms build by Taj which is a Machaan are the old ones. Right below these are the new rooms built by CM and they are just awesome. Excellent large rooms. Stayed in a studio apartment but with enough space, good kitchenette and awesome bath and a sit-out. The spa is costly but excellent service. Around the property you will find 100s of Kerala Ayurveda massage centres which are very reasonable. But we preferred the spa in the resort after paying that huge premium. Food is just ok and the nearby other resorts allow outsiders into their restaurant so give it a try. Again their food was not worth mentioning. There are lot of bakeries enroute to Thekkady buy some good snacks from there - worth it. Enjoy.

"Woke up to a beautiful sunrise and went and cleane..."

5.5/7
Posted 19 Nov, 2009

Woke up to a beautiful sunrise and went and cleaned the car thoroughly (no car wash facility available, which was a blessing in disguise) so we worked up a good appetite, had a simple breakfast and checked out at 9am for our drive to Thekkady which is about 95kms and 3 hours of driving through lush green forests and dotted with waterfalls and streams at a leisurely pace brought us to Kumily. On the way, we stopped at the Tata Tea Museum and bought ourselves some packets of tea(what else?!) and continued after downing a hot cup of divine masala chai at a roadside shack. Club Mahindra Tusker Trails Resort is between Kumily and Thekkady. Before we checked in we had a typical Kerala meal at a restaurant called Spice Chimney. The resort is wonderful, it apparently was earlier the Taj Garden Retreat before being aquired by Mahindra last year. Cottages are built on stilts with thatch on regular RCC roofs to give a rustic feel. Wonderfully quaint with a stained glass window, the cottage is a delight. They could of course re-do the bathrooms as they have a dated 80s look to them, not to say that they are not comfortable, they are, but the makeover will make it more today rather than yesterday. The weather was mild and so after a brief nap, a hot cup of coffee, a dip in the pool was just what tired bodies needed. We returned feeling fresh, had a drink and had some hot cup-o-noodles and soup for dinner. We drifted off to sleep with mellow music from the i-pod listening to frogs and crickets joining the orchestra. Nature\'s symphony has a soothing effect and we fell fast asleep. Day 4 - 14/11/09 Woke up to rain drumming on the roof and this went on for quite some time. In a brief lull, rushed to the dining hall for some hot breakfast and then drove around town looking for a petrol bunk, where we tanked up and pleasantly observed that the petrol was cheaper by Rs.5 than Bangalore. Chellarkovil is a lovely view point which leaves you stunned and speechless at the sheer beauty and bounty of nature. Driving to the Periyar Lake was a formality only as the recent boat tragedy had prompted closure of all boating activities (though we were told that these would resume on 16th. - well, we missed it!). After spending some time at this serene place which was very quiet due to lack of tourits (which, if you ask me, was a good thing!!), we drove out to a shop selling model boats (Kettuvellams) and bought one of about 3 feet long and gingerly placed it on the rear seat, some knick knacks and a bagful of spices later, we returned to our resort for a simple lunch. The very air as we strolled was permeated with spices and the exotic smells are passe\' for the locals but invigorating for us city beings. After the nap, just when we decided to go for a stroll, the skies opened up again and we had to cower and run to the restaurant for a lovely dinner. Too much of fresh air can make you indolent and groggy!! We slept early as we wanted to leave early on our drive back home. Day 5 - 15/11/09 At 6am sharp with the skies still dark and mist enveloping the car and all the we could (barely) see, we inched out of the resort, but as we crossed Cambam, the mist disappeared like magic, and we could go faster. We were hungry and stopped at the Travancore Paragon hotel at Periyakulam for breakfast. Tucked into a lovely ghee roast and took off again, sated. After Dindigul, you enter NH 45 and right through to Bangalore you are on NH, clocking a great 100+ averaging over 60kms/hr. Route we took was Kumily - Cambam - Periyakulam, Theni, Dindigul, Karur, Salem, Nammakal, Krishnagiri, Hosur, Bangalore. A must mention is the penchant for Tamil Nadu drivers to drive on the wrong side of the road, even on NHs, brazenly, as if it is their God given right, not only being a pain in the butt but potential accidents waiting to happen. We paid a toll of about Rs.175 in all but the road was worth it and we reached home after driving 505kms in 8 1/2 hours, with a 20min halt for lunch after Krishnagiri at A2B. Bangalore traffic was busy for a Sunday and the memories of a leisurely paced life of the hills we had just left behind hit us and made us feel sad about how we city folk have managed to screw up our lives...well, thank God for getaways, we can have brief interludes of peace and quiet at least. The car had averaged 17 on the way up and on the return gave a mileage of about 20 so an average of 18+, I think is fabulous :)
