One of the best vacation I have ever had. This resort is so well made and maintained that you will just fall in love with this place and people. Mr. Cornell is one gentleman who is lively and is living the best of life. This is a perfect resort that anyone would want to have. Beautiful garden, Horse, Dogs, Cow and lots of greenery. The Sun rises through your room and sets to let the moon shine through your room. Coming on to the best part of any hotel is off course the food. Apart from the delicious food, you can also enjoy the special recipe of Cornell and don't forget to ask for his best dessert. You can just relax here for two to three days and even more. Rest you have mountains all around. The scenery which we use to make in our school days will just turn real as you enter this place.
Col J P Singh know how to keep his customers happy. It is probably the most well done place in the whole of Kangra, the service was impeccable and so was the resort. You can see snow capped mountains from your room. Col has two beautiful dogs and even more elegant horses. I would recommend Colonel to anyone who is coming to Bir, Biling or Kangra.
The overall stay in this hotel was very good. The hotel team take personal care of the customers. The appearance of the hotel was modern and very beautiful. The location of the hotel was convenient to locate. The food was included in the package and we were served our expectation. The room in the hotel was very neat and well-maintained with amenities in good condition. The hotel is a kind off cottage type and they have their own tea estates. The staff in the hotel was very friendly, helpful and guiding us for sightseeing. There was no delay in check-in check-out procedure. There was trucking, riding activities available in this hotel. I had visited this hotel in the month of March with my friends and I will surely recommend this hotel.

My experience at this hotel was awesome and I did not find any problem in locating it. The surrounding was good and there was a shopping market nearby. The staff members were very nice in service and behaviour. The management did not make any delay in check-in or check-out procedure. The room allotted to me was spacious and well-maintained with all the required amenities which were working properly. The food quality of the resort is very good and organic, and the taste was very nice at reasonable price. There are no activities or games as such available but sightseeing trip was organised. I had been here with my family last month and our experience was really fantastic.
Bir in Kangra had been on my cards since it sports not only a quaint settlement at the foothills of Dhauladar Mountains, but also one of the best spots in the world to Paraglide from Billing. The Colonel's Resort is a very fine and comfortable place to settle in at Bir - whether you are off for a trek, para-glide, or just lounge about in the gardens on wrought iron chairs, I would strongly recommend this resort. The family-run place is very warm and welcoming. There are cottages with large clean, spacious rooms furnished with beautiful woodwork and good quality linen and quilts. They have large bathrooms with hot water which one needs in the cold winds that flow from the mountains. The bathrooms are also stocked with fine soaps and lotions so one need not worry about packing those. They are clean and bed tea is served before breakfast. There are no televisions, and in my opinion it adds to the charm of this place. If the rooms are fully booked, or if you prefer to carry your sleeping bags, tents are available to be pitched on the grounds under the trees. Their food is served in a lovely hall with great plate glass french windows overlooking the estate. The service is immaculate and the food delicious. There is no fixed menu you can order from, but the meals always have a great variety. They grow a lot of their servings on the estate, including their teas, the preserves served with toast in the morning or some of the fresh vegetables served for dinner. I even had the chance to sample the famous Mahseer fish once. The Colonel or a member of his family is always around apart from the other staff so any service or lively conversation is always at hand. In the evenings they prefer to have a social setting where all guests are welcome to bonfires on some nights or community dinners which means there are people strumming guitars and some good travel conversation takes place. The resort has two dogs that play around and do not bother the guests, and also has a couple of horses which you can give a hand at grooming. The Colonel and locals (and sometimes the guests) offer rides in their car, otherwise there are buses and shared rides going to Baijnath which is the nearest town. The high point of this stay is to ask the Colonel to make a reservation with the pilots to take you paragliding. You ride up from Bir (1400m) to Billing (2500m) and get strapped on with a licensed pilot who can take you as high as 3000 meters and float alongside eagles and then slowly fly down towards the Bir landing ground. Your flight can be anything from 30 minutes to 2 hours. You can carry a camera as well so it is a flight you will remember. You can walk around Bir village which has a lovely Tibetan settlement which hand makes noodles and cafes to get pancakes and tea. There are taxis to hire to go to Dharamsala or any of the surrounding towns in the market. There are a couple of restaurants like Norling Garden Cafe (freshest veggies in a salad!), and Friends' Cafe (pancakes and momos!) around if you want to go for a walk towards the monasteries and Deer Park Institute (a spiritual retreat place with music, film, meditation, spirituality, environment programs). The Colonel's Resort is quite a self-sufficient place that provides immaculate service, great food and allows you your own space for a nice retreat in silence or a screaming flight from the hills.
