Allepey is an amazing place for houseboat rides and rates highly in my destination list, but some houseboats can spoil your entire experience and something similar happened with me recently. It was a family vacation and we travelled all the way from Bangalore for houseboat trip. We had taken houseboat last year as well and had a wonderful experience. We expected something similar this time as well but read good reviews on the web about Cosy Houseboats and decided to use them. However it was an experience, due to which it might be our last houseboat ride in Allepey. Let me rate this experience on a few parameters: 1. Houseboat quality: It was a good boat but poorly maintained. Lizards and cockroaches in the rooms were scaring kids and other family members. 2. Sailing Experience: Out of 21 hours (12 noon to morning 9:00), Sailing was done for only 2 hours. 1.5 hours in the afternoon and 0.5 hours in morning. They did not take us to lake but restricted us to small ways only. We reached late around 2:00PM instead 12:00PM, but they did not start sailing until 3:00PM and again stopped for half an hour midway before parking at 5PM. Overall sailing time 2 hrs. :-( 3. Food: Very little veg options. In dinner - only ‘Daal-roti’. In breakfast - only Idli with Sambhar, not even chutney and no tea / coffee. Evening snacks - none, only tea in small paper cup. Reason: Boat did not even have milk to prepare tea / coffee :-( 4. Facilities: Boat did not have any games and had TV but was not switched on for us. I wonder on the purpose of having it on board. Overall it was an experience, which gives bad name to industry and deters people to take houseboats. There are other good boat operators and I have fantastic experience with them, but some folks can be classified as black spot on hospitality industry of Kerala. Please visit Allepey but be careful about Cosy Houseboat. (Rated Destination and Location are for the spots boat took us during ride and not for Allepey)

First thing comes to mind if we plan for Kerala trip and I had no exception, I too thought of booking a houseboat as we planned a Kerala trip on a very short notice. I was little tensed as it was a not pre-planned. I was worrying whether I will get a good boathouse or it should not be very costly. When you go with your family you always look for cheap and best. I too thought the same. I searched boathouses in Alleppey on ibibo. Com. I got the Cosy Houseboats with best price. I was a little scared because of food what they serve and about the room service. The check-in time was 12 am. We reached before time. The service what we received was awesome. We went by car so they offered car parking and complimentary snacks. They put our luggage on boathouse. We checked into the boathouse at sharp 12 am and the our sightseeing on boathouse started. We surprised to notice everything clean and well-maintained. Around 2:30 pm they served a very authentic South Indian lunch, evening tea and snacks at 5 and parked the boat at nearby village. We captured some pics and stayed there. They served very good dinner which was above our expectation. The A/C was good. It was very pleasant sleep on the boat. The boat started in the morning at 7:45 am for sightseeing and they served tea and breakfast (Indian/Western). We reached back our starting point around 9:00 am. I would say, it was a very pleasant experience and would definitely book the same for my next visit. Points to noticed 1. Punctual. 2. Boat is well-maintained. 3. Provided very good service. 4. Very good food. 5. Bed and toilets were very clean.
I am in love with Kerala a green beautiful state. My several friends were asking me to visit Kerala but to my nature of job I could not make it. This time I decided to visit with my family. The trip to Alleppey was great. We two families had visited Alleppey on 26 and 27 January 2016. We had wonderful time. The hospitality from staff and especially from houseboat crew was unexpectedly good. They provided all required info at the same time it was not boring. They were absolutely cooperative. The fish fry, curry, vegetables, rice, papad in lunch was very tasty. Pakodas in the afternoon was real surprise. It seems you know the taste of North Indians. We liked their way of fish fry and breakfast. We bought Tiger Prawns and the preparation was excellent. The beds were very comfortable. You need to take care of Rats and Ants on the boat by taking pest control. Small refrigerator is also required. The crew should take the tourist to nearby villages and may tell them about the lifestyle of local villagers, religious functions, economy, birds, variety of fish etc. The overnight stay on boat and the 41 kms of boating was great experience. The crew took care of every comfort to us. We spoke to our groups in Pune and Mumbai about the great joy we had on your houseboat stay and ask them to visit Kerala and do stay on houseboat of Cosy Houseboats. In future when we plan to visit Alleppey, we will certainly opt for Cosy Houseboats because of their efforts to make the trip most memorable. Please keep it up. I will send the photos later. Wish you all the best and thanks a lot.
We, four friends, wanted to jump out of the daily humdrum of research life, into the scintillating magical world of Kerala houseboats during Christmas 2015. Cosy came as a blessing when we were looking for options on the internet. The houseboat was very close to the description, with spic and span arrangement. The natural beauty and experience was beyond what we imagined. The staff were always smiling and very helpful, with no interference or rudeness. The pick-up was quick and comfortable, the luggage was well handled and the location was superb. Food was an amazing spread of taste and nutrition. Delicacies were steaming and mouth-watering. There was music to accompany. Toilets were well-equipped and clean, so were the upholstery, bed and towels. There was soap, mosquito repellent, nets etc. Name it and you get it. Oh! I forgot the goody bag, with some tasty dessert and chocolate bars. This is my first experience in a houseboat. I don't have much to compare with. However, with my baby steps in such a tour, I would still advise tourists for Cosy. A few things can be improved though. The non-vegetarian variety in the food can be improved, with different items. Not that you would miss it much, but the television could offer national channels, and movies and music (there were mostly local channels). And of course, the price. At normal times the price is very much worth the services (Rs. 11000), but during Christmas it rose to a whopping Rs. 21000. May be, Cosy can go a little easy on our pockets. That would be an icing on the cake! Keep it up Cosy!
Alleppey house boat was one of my dream places to visit and it was a great stay with cosy travels house boat. I could not have expected more than what I got for the price I paid. Though I had some challenges while booking but it got sorted out before I started from Bangalore. The room and wash room was clean and the water in the wash room was also clean, since it was a house boat I didn't expect so much. But I was happy everything was more than I expected. The only thing I didn't like in the room was the wardrobes were not very clean. The A/C was available only after 8 pm and after the boat is anchored at 5 pm it will be quite hot to manage if you want to be in the house boat, but it was not surprise to us because it was clearly mentioned in the itinerary. We went out for a walk and spent the time. If you are looking for all time A/C, I guess you can check for the luxury houseboats. The staff were very helpful and courteous. If you want to talk to them they are happy to explain all the details/info as you need, else they leave you with enough privacy. The toilet has only soap and towel, since I was carrying my own stuff like shampoo, toilet tissue, I didn't even check with the staff whether they can provide. My overall stay was awesome and I enjoyed every bit of it.
Myself and my wife toured Kerala and Alappuzha was one of the place. Except a night in house boat we didn't stay in any other hotels or place of importance. We were greeted by the hotel staff and offered welcome drinks and cakes. We were aboard on the boat arranged by Cosy Houseboats, Alappuzha at 13: 00 hrs on 13/9/15. The boat was moving in the back waters of Alappuzha till 17: 30 hrs and stopped at a convenient place where they could get electrical connection. As requested we were served vegetarian lunch and it was delicious. The crew were very polite and obliging. Dinner was served at 20: 00 hrs. The TV cable connection could have been improved with more channels like Tamil, Hindi and English. TV should have been arranged inside the bed room to avoid the mosquito menace. The house boat was having a kitchen and an Air-Conditioned room in which we spent the night. The bed room was neat and tidy. Next day morning the boat left at 6: 00hrs. To the place from where we started. Mean while break fast was served. We enjoyed the trip and it was memorable one.
