About Dal Lake

voted as clean

Dal lake, one of the most beautiful lakes in India, is the second largest lake of the state of Jammu and Kashmir. Encircled by mountains on three sides, the banks of this lake are adorned by several blooming gardens and orchards. Some of the main features of this lake include five basins and numerable channels, which are well linked with each other.

With a size of 6 km by 3 km, the embankments of this lake also house plenty of Mughal monuments along with the campus of University of Kashmir. In addition, the lake has two hillocks that house the popular shrine of Shankaracharya along with Hari Parbat Temple.

The lake is also known for its Shikaras and Houseboats for which it is visited by number of tourists. The Shikaras available at the lake provide travellers with ferry rides to and from the banks to the houseboats.

Divided into four parts by causeways, namely Gagribal, Lokut Dal, Bod Dal and Nagi, the lake is also the second largest industry of fishing. It is believed that Dal Lake originated from the Pleistocene Oligotrophic Lake, which at some point of time covered the Kashmir valley.

"Dal Lake - The awesome beauty on earth"

  • 1.0/7
  • Posted 1 month ago
Dal Lake, the biggest scenery spot that GOD created on Earth is awesome. If we imagine the scene at Dal Lake is on the " Picture canvas ". The picturesque beauty of the Lake may be drawn by the GOD for showing his skill in creating the same to please his followers who visited Earth along with GOD.

I am not either poet or painter to put the greatness of DAL LAKE in White and Black or in Colours. Such a beauty depicted in Lake. In addition, the sailing of boats on the Lake is pleasant and worth watching besides the beauty scenes of background HILL view.

Finally, one has to see and relish the beauty and sweetness of the DAL LAKE but not relish the same just by watching the same on videos or pictures and or studying the same through books.

Through this, I want to say one thing that go for a tour to KASHMIR, the HEAVEN ON THE EARTH and get the experience of great feelings that are hidden in KASHMIR TOUR.

What can I explain about it, you just feel it when you come here. Beauty in the real lake view gives you fresh start in the Morning time. We can come here any time but I preferred early morning at sunrise.

"Beautiful Lake"

  • 5.0/7
  • Posted 2 months ago
Visited Dal Lake in May 2011. Dal Lake is a beautiful lake with shikaras and floating markets. The only bad part was the sellers approaching our shikara every now and then to sell their items which really irritated me. You can rent local costumes and click pictures on the shikara. A kava drink was refreshing. Must visit destination in Srinagar.

"Evening at Dal Lake"

  • 7.0/7
  • Posted 2 months ago
Dal Lake is one of top destination to visit in kashmir. Dal Lake is a place where you will find everything in water only. There are shikaras which will take you to the house boats. Staying in houseboats is must to feel the real beauty of Dal Lake. You can enjoy the best Kashmiri food in these houseboats. Get up early in morning and in winters you can see it covered with ice layer. Dal Lake also offers you to buy gifts for your family and friends as local people sell nice items in boats. In the evening go for a 1 hour ride and see the beautiful flowers in the lake and enjoy the beauty of Kashmir.

""Yeh Kashmir hai" feeling awesome"

  • 6.5/7
  • Posted 3 months ago
It's true ''Yeh Kashmir Hai'' awesome and extraordinary trip. Dal Lake situated in Srinagar takes up 3-5 hrs to spot the places. Shikara is one of the best memorable part of Dal Lake, also houseboats are amazing. We enjoyed the floating market in Dal Lake and bought Kashmiri stoles and Cotton dresses. My best place to visit and I refer everyone to visit atleast once in lifetime. Best days to visit are Feb-March while we go in May there is a nice climate. Also enjoy chill ice cream moments at a very clean water of Dal Lake.
