Dal Lake remains crowded throughout the year and is popularly known for its houseboats and Shikaras. This lake covers an area of about 26 sq. km. and has a long shore line of approximately 15.5 km. It is divided intro four different sections that are connected through four causeways and can be reached easily from the city of Srinagar. It is an ideal site in the region for enjoying swimming, kayaking, houseboats, canoeing, angling, Shikara riding and water surfing.

This place is regarded as the summer capital of the state of Jammu and Kashmir and is the second largest lake in the state. It is popularly called as 'Srinagar's Jewel' or 'Jewel in the crown of Kashmir'. This place is also ideal for fishing along with water plant harvesting. During the winter season, the temperature at the destination reaches about -110 Celsius, which freezes the Dal Lake.

Dal lake is full of grass but you will still enjoy your shikara ride because of its hills view. Floating market, Meena bazar and a lot will enhance your joy.

"Lovely water ride" new review

  • 5.50/7
  • Posted 2 weeks ago
If you want to have a lazy water ride to take, and enjoy the beautiful Dal Lake, you have to be on towards evening. The beautiful mountains surrounding the lake, the boats selling ice-cream and flowers and jewellery is an experience worth remembering. Of course, don't buy clothes or jewellery, you will be cheated.

"Very refreshing" new review

  • 6.00/7
  • Posted 3 weeks ago
The Dal Lake at Srinagar is the finest place I have ever been to. It is located in the middle of Srinagar and undoubtedly is the heart of Srinagar. There is a thing called shikara which is kind of very comfortable and romantic boat which takes you to a ride in the lake. Its really very refreshing and loved place.

"Dirtiest lake"

I had high hopes of this lake. But it was full of plastic things, weeds and murk. The shikaras are not clean, the upholstery is not clean. The boat people charge you a bomb for a ride. You have to keep bargaining.

A must see when visiting Srinagar, try to stay a few nights in a houseboat, or go for a stroll on the Boulevard and a shikara ride around sunset. A very peaceful experience when visiting Srinagar.
