Dal Lake remains crowded throughout the year and is popularly known for its houseboats and Shikaras. This lake covers an area of about 26 sq. km. and has a long shore line of approximately 15.5 km. It is divided intro four different sections that are connected through four causeways and can be reached easily from the city of Srinagar. It is an ideal site in the region for enjoying swimming, kayaking, houseboats, canoeing, angling, Shikara riding and water surfing.

This place is regarded as the summer capital of the state of Jammu and Kashmir and is the second largest lake in the state. It is popularly called as 'Srinagar's Jewel' or 'Jewel in the crown of Kashmir'. This place is also ideal for fishing along with water plant harvesting. During the winter season, the temperature at the destination reaches about -110 Celsius, which freezes the Dal Lake.

After experiencing 50 degree of North India in the month of May, evening shikara ride at Dal lake was like walking in clouds with cool and fresh breeze. Wonderful fresh and lively experience. Will never forget the floating market at the lake and the awesome traditional Kashmiri food.

"Experience a ride and relax"

Firstly, one should not be bothered with the bargaining that one has to do with the boat riders. I think one should estimate the cost based on tourist information boards at various places and then settled down and stay firm on the cost. Once on the shikara, simply enjoy the surrounding and the lake. I visited the 4 chinar on the shikara and it was a very nice spot. The navigators here prefer to talk less whereas some travellers may prefer that they get to know more about the lake, Srinagar and Kashmir as a whole. The lake looks clean and overall you like the natural beauty around you provided people around your shikara allow you to enjoy in Silence!!

"Picturesque Lake"

Dal lake is such a huge and beautiful lake with the mountains in the horizon and looks breathtaking. But the lake is bordered by a heavy traffic road.

The shikara ride is lovely but could have been better had it not been for the touts who continuously hassle you for buying their wares and will not stop at all. It spoils the experience.

The lake needs a bit of cleaning as well. Please negotiate well with the shikara owners before getting in the ride, otherwise they will not take you to the vast and beautiful expanse of water, but they will only take you to the side which has the meena bazaar and other shops.

"Beautiful! A must see in Srinagar!!"

  • 7.0/7
  • Posted 2 months ago
The Dal Lake - as I expected - provides a very beautiful sight to behold. The lake is humongous and is surrounded by snow capped mountains and is located in the heart of Srinagar city.

Shikara ride in the Dal Lake is a must do activity and surely can not be missed. The shikara ride typically lasts between an hour to two and covers a few points within the lake. The shikaras are quite clean and comfortable. The shikara owners are very nice guys. They are polite and will double up as temporary guides!! Shikara ride is a nice family activity and one must indulge.

The moment you start your sail, the local vendors will start approaching you. You can buy a lot of food, beverages, jewelry, flowers etc.

One can see floating farms, floating markets, houseboats etc.

In the lake. The lake is clean. Local administration take a lot of efforts to keep the lake clean.

Overall - very good! A must see attraction in Srinagar. Enjoyed the Shikara ride!!!

"Evening ride in dal Lake is a lifetime memory"

  • 7.0/7
  • Posted 2 months ago
We went for a dal Lake shikara during evening hours and enjoyed the ride having kulfis, local kashmiri shopping, floating boats with shopping stall inside the dal Lake. The houseboats are worth stay but I personally believe the shikhara promises more romantic evening. Should not miss the floating post office which is a rare view to see around in India.

"Incredible visit planned by Vani holidays"

  • 7.0/7
  • Posted 2 months ago
Dal Lake is simply breathtaking. I knew that it was a big lake covering some 25 or 26 square kilometers of area but I didn't realize that it would look almost like an ocean. It is just immense. Besides the size, what intrigued me the most is the way people use the magnificence of this amazing lake for supporting themselves. The Vani Holidays has done a wonderful job in creating the Kashmir holiday package at such an affordable price which allows everyone to enjoy the incomparable beauty of heaven on Earth. Kashmir is awesome.

"Awesome place and stay here in the houseboat"

  • 6.5/7
  • Posted 3 months ago
This place is awesome and every visitor should stay for at least two days to enjoy the beauty of Srinagar completely. I visited this place with my family during our anniversary and had a houseboat ride here on the Dal lake. The lake was neat and its beauty in sunrise and at sunset is indescribable in words. The houseboat ride for a family costs 4000/- for a single day trip in which the sakirin( the boat driver)takes us to all visiting places and to the floating market too here which is marvellous. Food too will be served here by the boat driver and the ride takes about 1 day completely and so I recommend everyone to visit this place with a plan of two day visit atleast.
