Dalhousie food, sight-seeing and shopping options
For hotels, if you want to book in advance, my recommendation is do not book the himachal tourism corporation hotel. It is in ruins there. Any other private hotel will do well. The rates are competitive, so call a few before making the bookings. Do not forget negotiating on price. From Punj pulla there are a few hiking trails. If you are planning to go for hiking, make sure you are well equipped for it.
There are a few food joints where you easily can have good food - like there is one authentic Sher-e-Punjab dhaba. Nice food, ambience is good, service is ok. Avoid spending on the mineral water as the normal tap water the hotel will provide is good enough. Eat a lot and sleep a lot - that is what the idea of the vacation is.

Hotel Review of Mount View Hotel
Comments: Visiting Dalhousie in the month of December wasn't a great experience. Dalhousie in itself doesn't have any great sceinic spots except for mountains. Khajjiyar and Chamba are the two distant places that are worth visiting from here. Though the month of December I feel wasn't the perfect time to visit, cause neither did we meet snow nor with lush greenery. However the mountains & valley view were very scenic.
Best Experience: The view from the hotel compound was really very beautiful.
Directly facing the valley & the distant mountains, it was simply spellbounding !!
Also, the party organized at the hotel for new year's celebration was lotsa fun.
Worst Experience: The room provided to us was directly outside the dining hall area and hence had to face a lots of disturbance at lunch & dinner timings due to the crowd.
Also, within the room, the worst part was that the geyser had very limited capacity & the hot water would suffice only a single person's usage. Another person would have to wait for at least an hour to get sufficiently hot water in the chilling season.
Lastly, though there were CD players provided within the room, the management wasn't able to provide even a single video CD, despite of several requests, citing the reason that they had to arrange it from some distant library.

Mount View has the best location in Dalhousie, but food is rather a dissapointment in Dalhousie. For the laid back traveller, Dalhousie is not a happening place in the real sense of the term. But for loners, it is a haven, specially if you are fond of walking distances. Actually Grand View is the best place for light home kinda food....

It was great to spend 8 days in dahousie and njoy the scenic beauty of Dalhousie/Chamba and Khajjiar. The place has that calm which you'll enjoy if you want to get away from the city noises. Go there just to relax and wander around, nothing much in terms of big tourist attractions though. Khajjiar is beautiful, but not good enough to be called Switzerland of India as it claims. We enjoyed the place though, because we'd mostly relax and go...

What ever i had thought about dalhousie it was not worth it. Don't get to see lot of natural beauty. Too congested and shabby construction. Resort was good but location being near to Bus Stand was crowded and too much noise pollution. Rooms and service were really good. No leisure activities apart from ludo and chess ........
