A short trip to Dalma Hills

We recently had a one-day short trip to Dalma Hills. We reached the entrance of the forest in Chakulia district almost in 40 min from our house. The route reminded me of the lush greenery on the way to Darjeeling from Siliguri. But the difference here is that we wont find the snow-capped mountains. We had a visitors ticket from the forest office and proceeded inside. We witnessed varieties of birds. There are a few incidences of elephant-sightings. We proceeded for a distance of 6 km inside the thick jungle and returned thereafter. There are a few villages at an approx. distance of 2 or 3 kms in the forest. The trip would have been better if there was a paid safari arranged by the forest department .
