The Dalma Hills are located at a height of 3,000 ft above sea level with dense forests and Subarnarekha River. There is a wildlife sanctuary in this range, which was inaugurated by Late Sanjay Gandhi in 1975.

This wildlife sanctuary covers a wide area of about 195 sq. km. Dalma sanctuary is home to barking deers, leopards  and various other animals. It is an ideal destination for trekking due to its location on steep slopes.

There is also a Lord Shiva temple in the sanctuary, which is visited by devotees during Shivaratri. This wildlife sanctuary has Tata Steel and Forest Department guesthouses for accommodating travellers. The best time to visit this wildlife sanctuary is between October and June.

"A short trip to Dalma Hills"

  • 4.5/7
  • Posted 2 months ago
We recently had a one-day short trip to Dalma Hills. We reached the entrance of the forest in Chakulia district almost in 40 min from our house. The route reminded me of the lush greenery on the way to Darjeeling from Siliguri. But the difference here is that we won't find the snapped mountains. We had a visitor's ticket from the forest office and proceeded inside. We witnessed varieties of birds. There are a few incidences of elephant-sightings. We proceeded for a distance of 6 km inside the thick jungle and returned thereafter. There are a few villages at an approx. Distance of 2 or 3 kms in the forest. The trip would have been better if there was a paid safari arranged by the forest.

And nice and beautiful place. Very close to Jamshedpur. Main gate located in Jamshedpur Purulia road just after crossing asanbani. Its a aweaome journey of 16km to the top of hill almost 1km from sea level. Road is just like a jungle road but natural beauty is awesome. A guest house is thr. 5 km bfr the hill top. Take almost every if you plan to stay there. Booking done from forest office mango.
In hill top three beautiful mandirs are thr ram sita, shiva and hanuman. You can see all arounds from the watch tower.
Some advice
1. Jungle open from early morng take pases from jungle entrance
2 take adequate water and food as none available thr. Some sadhus only stay thr. In very festive season like shiv puja etc you will get some food thr rest of time none avl
3 Mobile netwok avl in some places
