Brilliant! an experience of a life time which was made even better by the innocent but expert camel boys during the camel ride to the Sand Dunes. The activities at the camp site especially the gypsy dance, was another of those that was well organised and performed by a really good dancer! Awesome
Given some missed connections, Damodra was our first stop after a 4 flight, 2 day journey to India. It was the best welcome we could have asked for. The staff is so attentive, the "tents" are bohemianly beautiful and the experience was one not to be missed.
t is truly a camp in a but minus all the worries of pitching a tent, keeping from insects and the typical hassles of camping. The facilities were wonderful and the water hot (just be patient - which they inform when you check-in). The tent itself was spacious and well maintained. The staff are attentive to your needs and in true Rajasthani culture, cater to your every whim. Whether at the star gazing rooftop, the sunrise gazebo, around the bonfire during the local music and dance presentation or at breakfast - someone is around to ask if you want 'chai' or tea. They also leave you to yourself once you respond. This, unlike the other camps, had ten tents (when we visited in Jan '17) which makes it personalized. The musical event and puppet theatre in the evening is an eye opener - a blend of Bollywood music and John Denver!!! Ask for Country Roads if you know the song and will get an interesting variation
Our stay at the Damodra Desert Camp was memorable in so many ways. From the camel ride to cultural entertainment, the food and drink, and the most blissful sleep we had in India...it was superb! The staff were so attentive and friendly which made it very enjoyable and the camp itself is a lovely location and definitely worth the drive from the highway. It was our one experience in India where we could hear a pin drop. To feel the night approach and not hear a sound took our breath away, then add in a sky full of stars with a thin sliver of a moon. We'll remember our stay there with great fondness.
I had read a lot of reviews about this place before I finalsed my stay here . In usual case our expectations increase during the visit n this place lived up to even those expectations. Ambience , tents , activites everything about the place is fabulous . The evening cultural is probably one of the best experiences I have had. early morning is very good time to c the nature there . Even my 4 yr child enjoyed every moment of it. Food is good with limited choices. The wonderful people at Damodra makes the experience even more wonderful .
Staff were very hospitable and friendly and helped to make the stay very enjoyable. Camel ride was short, but long enough for a taster, and it was lovely to watch the sunset in the desert. Evening entertainment was authentic and varied. The tents themselves were very comfortable and had everything I needed.
It was a great experience in staying at the camp. Tent was very comfortable. Bathrooms highly clean and hygienic. Food and drinks excellent. Best part was the service which endears ones heart. Only thing which needs improvement was the camel ride. Camels need to be properly cushioned. Overall the best camping site near Jaisalmer. AK Gupta
After passing by cars that pull "desert-sailors" up in the blue sky, suddenly the driver turns off the well paved road towards left into a sand-road. Mhh... Fearing a bit to get lost in a "Nowhere", the arrival at Damodra Desert Camp proofs immediately that "Nowhere" can be heaven. Two friendly dogs and a few very nice people form the welcome committee and made us feel immediately at home. The so called Swiss tents - all set up in a decent distance from each other to grant privacy - are beautifully decorated. What I loved most was the attached bathroom giving a rustic feeling without compromising on comfort. Surprisingly and at first a bit uneasy about it: there are no locks on the tents. But fast we found out that this camp works with their own people, all from the nearby Damodra village; it's like a big family and without knowing how, suddenly you feel becoming a part of them. Christine, the American business partner is the only "firangi" but she is such a lovely complement to Priviti, the local "entrepreneur", who designed great excursions like a camel ride at sunset to the sand-dunes, or what was really the top - a short drive to the lost village. Story and site not to be missed! In the evening they offer a lovely cultural program, including music, dancing, puppet show, fire-eater, while serving tasty starters from the tandoor to the guests. After a buffet dinner with fresh local and international dishes - yes, there were Spaghettis too! - it's just magical to step back to the tent or climb up the "watch-tower" under a sky of million stars. As we stayed for two nights: only suggestion for improvement: The rooms should be made/cleaned on the second day. But I think Christine has already taken care about it for the next visitors.
The overall stay at the hotel was awesome. The hotel was conveniently located and it could be reached easily. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the hotel. It was a religious trip. I had visited in a group. There was not enough parking facility provided there. The room had basic amenities like AC, TV and geyser in working condition. The bathroom was clean and well maintained. The housekeeping staff regularly cleaned the room and bathroom. There was no special view from the room. The staff’s behaviour was helpful and friendly. We were allotted the room once we reached the hotel. There was no delay in check in and checkout procedure. It was done on time. There were no activities in the hotel. Restaurant was not provided there. The hotel was value for money. I would recommend this hotel to other travellers.
First of all, Jaisalmer is a very good place to visit. It makes us realize the historical heritage of our country. This hotel made our stay at Jaisalmer very comfortable and more entertaining. The hotel is built in the form of tents in the desert. The stay in the deserts in the nights is preferable as it is very cool here in the nights. The fare of the hotel is a bit too high but you get services for all you paid. The traditional activities including the folk dances and singing is just heart touching. Rajasthani food here is also awesome (especially daal-baati). Staff is kind and polite. Overall its just wonderful and I would recommend each and every travellers to have a stay here.
My first visit to the Golden city of Jaisalmer and I had the opportunity to stay at this hotel. A beautiful hotel, but modern Indian style. Simple but very tasteful and especially clean. Staff were helpful and always present. All staff member were really hospitable and make you feel at home. A mix between Mumbai and Rajasthan. The view from the terrace is wonderful on strong even more. I would really recommend it to everyone.
Visited in Dec 2013 and had an absolutely great time. My two young kids, 6 and 9 year old boys got to stay in a real Desert and experience everything first hand. The food was great and the hospitality too. Sufi Music and dance in the evenings, visit to an old fort, nearby village, Oasis, camel ride to view the sunset were icing on the cake.
