"Dhole's Den shows you Bandipur is more than just tigers - truly close to nature"

6.1/7
Posted 16 Oct, 2013

We returned from Dhole's Den, Bandipur yesterday after a fantastic 2 day stay. We thought of this for my son's 7th birthday. Reviews for the place were great and I am writing here to say that the reviews were spot on! This is a fabulous place for the young (son 7 and daughter 10) and the not-so-young (me and the wife). We paid about Rs.12,000 per night. Seemed a bit high at first but we discovered it was totally worth it. Dholes has only two villas and two deluxe rooms, we stayed in one of the villas. All the four are fantastically positioned and look out onto the Nilgiris. The view is fabulous from everywhere. The food is regular but well-made and satisfying. It is not 5-star kind fancy. But I honestly think that if you came here for the food, you are missing the point...by a mile. Also, the chef will take a request as long as its reasonable. The location is fabulous, right in the midst of nature and away from everything. But the BIGGEST achievement of this amazingly knowledgeable and passionate staff - Sukanta and Rajesh is that they make you realise that a jungle is not only about the animals. The way they explain the intricacies of an ecosystem make this way more enriching than any jungle experience. I HONESTLY DIDN'T CARE THAT WE SAW NO TIGERS. (We did see a Leopard though) My kids hardly slept the two days we were there. If it wasn't walking the dogs, it was feeding the fish or running off on a nature walk or watching the cows swim or feeding birds. The two hours they did break for, Sukanta arranged an easel and colours so my daughter could sketch the landscape and my son was playing wildlife puzzles. The four hounds on the premise were all the company my kids needed. All of this comes with a very knowledgeable and eager commentary on the significance of what we are seeing by Sukanta or Rajesh. These guys, supported by a very helpful staff, totally made the difference for us (and judging from the reviews here, for everyone else as well). All in all, a fantastic place to not only enjoy being close to nature but also to seed the idea of being conscious of the delicate balance of nature and how we can help maintain it. If you have kids that age or older, go here and you will feel good about having given them more than just a cool holiday.

"Home away from Home (in a Jungle)"

6.8/7
Posted 24 Sep, 2015

Last month we visited Dhole's Den with family for one night, but wish we had more!! The place was calm, serene, secluded from the hustle bustle of the usual chores. The resort is right inside the jungle but it is well fenced (electrified) and guarded from wild. Our stay was memorable thanks to the staff and management (especially Manager Rajesh). At the first look we were amazed by the location of the resort (even the road leading to Dhole's Den was awesome with scenic views). The resort is right inside jungle overlooking the beautiful Niligiris (far away) and lush green fields until horizon. Truly mesmeric. The service was another hallmark of the place with staff being so friendly and considerate coupled with warm reception from the team. The food was awesome and homely cooked mostly with the home grown veggies. Our compliments to the chef for the same. There are lots of activities like camp-fire, documentary movie, nature walk as well for kids activities. Bandipur is one of the oldest tiger reserves with 140+ tigers and leopards. We were lucky to spot the leopard along with few other animals in our safari (government -run - Totally Recommended). Dhole's team made the arrangement for our family to visit Madumalai Elephant Camp, Tribal Village and their farm house. Dhole's Den is truly 'Home Away from Home' with something for everyone. We enjoyed our stay and are looking forward to come back soon.

"Heaven on Earth!"

Great property, awesome food (especially "Golmes" desserts). Also, the service standards were out of the world. The manager & his staff made me feel so much at home that i extended my stay at the Den for 2 more days! A must stay place if one is travelling to this part of the paradise. Thanks to the manager's inputs, I got to see couple of rarely visited tourist places in and around Bandipur. This was possible due to his excellent knowledge of the Bandipur topography. This "delightful" experience has made me decide to visit the Den once again soon! For me, Dhole's Den is my permanent getaway from the urban jungle called Bangalore!

"Value for money and is booked throughout the year"

7.0/7
Posted 28 Jan, 2014

It is a superb property. Every rupee spent here is worth its value. I would love to visit them again if time permits. They are heavily booked through the year. Ensure you confirm your bookings before going. Walk in will be 100% not possible. Here you will meet a guy (SUKANTA) He has tremendous knowledge of the forest. You can spend a lot of time with him without getting bored. Do visit Dhole's Den to actually live in the jungle.I can write more and more about the place, but want all those who are interested to go and visit this place, its only for true nature lovers.
