Overview: We were 4 families with 3 kids from Bangalore and Chennai. We planned to have our year end vacation in Munnar. We are frequent travellers and foodies. We chose Ecotones Munnar after seeing the hyped review ratings of EcoTones. So we reserved 2 ethnic and 2 premium rooms. But 3 out of 4 important aspects were unpleasant and we did not have a relaxing or peaceful stay. The details are below . . Advice to Travellers : If you are a Foodie and a person expecting good service this place is not suitable. POOR FOOD and POOR SERVICE spoils the holiday mood Also this property doesn't have a play area for kids which families usually expect. Being in a hilly steep terrain, the pathway lighting inside the resort for rooms were insufficient and is risky for kids 1. Rooms - Rooms and the Bathrooms were clean and good. The view was good. 2. Unprofessional Office I paid an advance reservation amount(half of full amount as stated by EcoTones Terms and Conditions) for 4 rooms (2 Ethnic Mud Houses and 2 Premium rooms for 8 adults and 3 Kids) before a month as requested by EcoTones management. But to my SHOCK when I called Ecotones after reaching Munnar, I was informed by the management that we have reserved only 2 rooms. That cannot happen as I had very clear mail and telephonic conversations on ECOTONES official mail ID and telephone number. That was disturbing esp. When you are travelling with kids for a long distance. After proving with my mail, a few minutes later I was told that they can give us 1 Ethnic, 1 luxury and 2 premium rooms. I had to compromise here This is unprofessional and disappointing 3. BAD Food - No Variety or taste. As hyped in EcoTones official web site there were no trademark dishes available. Dinner buffet had NO VARIETY and the TASTE was NOT GOOD. I expected to taste few varieties of nice local dishes but all that was available was oily chicken curry(with a cover-up explanation by a guy for too much oil), fish fry pieces served cold, Dal, steamed rice, banana flower riyal and 2 vegetables Poor Breakfast: Bare Minimal Breakfast. Idly was the only main dish and it was served cold. The menu was bare minimal 1) Idli with Sambhar and chutney 2) corn flakes(choco and regular) and milk 3) Grape juice and 4) a cut fruit. It was disappointing for all of us with only one local dish idly that too served cold I have tasted all south Indian esp. Kerala and Tamilnadu dishes, both home and hotel preparations. Never seen this much oil in chicken curry and the fish fry was not good This FOOD is NOT even standard food in terms of variety and quality 4. Service quality. Dinner is from 7:30 to 9 pm and the kitchen closes by 9 PM(even ala chart is not available). When I asked the manager about why they close kitchen early, his response was "foreign guests arrive for early dinner". We were 4 Indian families and we met 3 more Indian families in near-by premium rooms. We saw only a few foreigners. This response is NOT PROFESSIONAL and shows their attitude During breakfast, when I requested for a service person to take extra order, they were hesitating to come. Then I had to go to them and tell. This is again NOT professional service at all.
Enjoyed natural things like trees, plants and stay in the room. Food no items and charged excess without any choices we ate. There were huge noises around the resort between 9 to 10pm may be boozers, which we felt afraid of. Resort is good but noises and food has no choices at all.
If I have to advice a friend for a good hotel in Munnar, I would definitely suggest EcoTones Camp Munnar. The hotel is located on the slopes of a hill, in between all the natural beauty. It is a pleasure to your eyes when you wake up to see greenery all around The rooms are designed on the theme to conserve the nature. The staff were very friendly and quick to respond on any call. If you are looking for a break away from the city life and if you are looking for peace with luxury this is the place to be.
Rooms are nice to stay. Situation of resort was very scenic and beautiful. Food was excellent. Room service and behaviour of hotel boys are very much cordial and gentle. Timely attention was given by hotel personnel with lot of good wishes. Dishes are very much tasty and fabulous.
In this hotel everything was very homely and tariff for this resort was reasonable. The room was like cottage type and it was maintained neat and clean, spacious. They also provide herbal thing like herbal water. The location was very good and I did not find any difficulty in locating this resort. The hospitality was very good. The food was good and veg and non-veg food facility is also available. The appearance of the hotel was very traditional. The staffs were very friendly and there was no any delay in check in and check out. There is no TV provided inside the room. There is a yoga centre in this resort. I will recommend this hotel for other travellers.
Lovely place, stayed 2 days and 2 nights over there. Its 12 km from Munnar (In Adipally) and was a blessing in disguise. Great hospitality and novel idea of having mudhuts and all herbs cosmetics. Serve authentic Kerala food in Machhan (Dining area). Idea of not providing room service is better as it makes us explore and enjoy things which we normally do not because of our laziness. Staff organized a village walk in the evening and morning trek to sunrise point. Both of these experiences have left a permanent impression in my mind and I will highly recommend it to all other travellers.
