Elephant Lake or Elephant Arrival Lake or Anayirangal is a place frequented by tourists visiting Munnar. Elephant Lake or Anayirangal is an idyllic picnic location which has a dam and a reservoir.

Elephant Lake or Anayirangal is located nearby Tata Tea Plantations in Munnar, at a distance of about 22 km from Munnar.

The Elephant Lake is a picturesque location surrounded by tea plantations, evergreen forests, rolling grasslands and hillocks. Tourists interested in photography can capture the panoramic view of the calm waters of the reservoir with the backdrop of dense Tata tea estates and clouds.

The Elephant Lake or Anayirangal is named so since herds of wild elephants arrive here from the dense forests of Munnar to drink water. It is very common to spot a herd of elephants by the waters of Elephant Lake. Tourists maintain a safe distance from the elephants as it is very dangerous to disturb them.

"Dancing nature"

  • 7.0/7
  • Posted Oct 5, 2016
This picture was captured at Elephant lake in Munnar. There are couple of beautiful lakes in Munnar. This is one of those. Almost without sound, I enjoyed the music of nature here, in the presence of big fog of gray. What do you see beyond that shore? It's a buch of immortal experiences of nature. It's all yours. Go grab it. I don't think I can describe it better than the above lines from a movie.

"Nice boat riding with beautiful lake and perfect nature feeling"

  • 5.0/7
  • Posted Dec 17, 2015
Is this lake worth a visit?
Ofcourse, feel nice to see Free Elephant Family all around. Can enjoy the view. Can feel the nature.

Activities at the lake?
Boat Riding. If you are going with team you can do picnic all around. There is lots of free and good space there.

Time & Must Carry Items- You must should start early in the morning because after 2 rain will start, so you can't stay and enjoy and also driving will be difficult.

There will be very less food there, I found only Maggie and biscuits over there, so. Please carry food, specially if you are travelling with children.

"Cool place for photography"

Nice place to take snaps, you may need some better lens. Careful about the sliding land importantly during rainy season. You will find some tea shops for refreshments and some snack to eat.

If you are lucky enough then you will see wild elephants on the bank of the river. May be you need to reach to the spot by boat. We personally didn't go near by but have seen elephants through binoculars.

Good to visit as you can come across a huge huge elephants. Only thing is you need to invest more time and also pay more. The ticket price is too high. Not worth with such high ticket.

"Enjoy the ride, buy a snap"

  • 6.0/7
  • Posted Oct 10, 2014
I enjoyed lot when I went elephant ride with my wife. Also took nice snap which I can't forget in my life. Go for elephant ride don't miss. Management will not allow you to carry Camera. They will take snap and you need pay for snapshots. Because when travelling through elephant Management people only can capture the pictures.

"Joyful Elephant ride"

  • 5.0/7
  • Posted Sep 3, 2014
Well this time the number of elephants was more might be because of seasonal rush. But crowded always. Long waiting time to get your turn of ride. Well managed with adequate staff. Parking is available inside.
