About Elphinstone Point

voted as clean

Elphinstone Point is situated 3.21 km ahead of Arthur's Seat and 11 km ahead of Frere Hall. At this point the cliffs are higher and rise from the Konkan, which is around 2500 ft below the level of the Koyna valley. Built during the British rule, this point is named after the Governor of Bombay, Sir Elphinstone.

Tourists can enjoy the view of Koyna valley, plains and the ravine, which lies between the Elphinstone point and Arthur point. The view of River Savitri, which originates from this point is also beautiful. Discovered by Dr. Murray in 1830.

"Beautiful scenery like anything" new review

People must visit this point as there is natural shape of Elephant's Head / trunk which makes the entire scenery best ever we can get. Consider being safe here while taking selfies and overall good place.

"A place in the shape of Elephant's Head"

  • 7.0/7
  • Posted Jan 30, 2016
This place is located in the town of Mahabaleshwar, Maharashtra. The name of Elphinstone is derived by its look. The Elephant's Head can be seen from far distance, but looks amazing.

"Amazing to touch the Clouds"

  • 7.0/7
  • Posted Sep 18, 2015
Never seen such a Height where it feels like you are touching the Clouds and when you look down you feel as if the ground is covered with a Green Mat. There were Hawkers selling Sweet Corn, Groundnut etc. Authorities must plan more Dustbins at the point because the waste is found thrown all around the place at the Viewpoint, because the nearest Dustbin is kept at a distance from the Viewpoint.

From this point you can get a picturesque view of Panchgani and Mahabaleshwar. Roads are narrow but very smooth, not very crowded.
