About Film City (Entertainment Centre)

voted as clean

Film City can be rightly known as a synonym to the city of Mumbai. It is located in the outskirts near Sanjay Gandhi National Park and close to the Aarey colony in Goregaon (East). Film city was the dream of Dada Saheb Phalke and is thus known on his name as the Dada Saheb Phalke Chitranagari.

The area comprises world-class facilities for all departments involved in the movie making process and for both outdoor and indoor shooting. Lakes, theatres, fountains, temples, grounds for fighting sequences, etc, are spread across the entire area. Superstars of Bollywood and the Indian television industry can also be spotted inside the Film City.

Tourists can take a tour of the place and take a glimpse of the various places used for different aspects in a film. Any mode of road transport, including taxis and auto rickshaws, can be used to reach the Film City from different parts of the city. Another option is to take a train to Goregaon railway station that is located nearby.

"Interesting place to visit"

  • 5.0/7

This film city is worth visiting if one is interested in movies etc. There are many different sets, which we see in films, like school, hospital, bus stand, houses etc. Fun to watch if some shooting is going on. We come to know how many retakes are there for just 1 scene.

"Film City tour reveals how Films and Serials are made"

  • 6.0/7
  • Posted Dec 7, 2015
Book your tour on net online and in advance if you do not want to be disappointed at the gates. Reach Goregaon East Station and get a easy Bus BEST Mumbai bus service a public transport right upto and beyond the gates of the Famed Film City of the Film CITY of the nation-Mumbai. Check in half and hour early than your scheduled tour. This was not allowed till recently as active work of shooting all serials and films is going on in this vast acres of Green on the east border of the Great Business City. We tourists get seated in a AC Bus with water and small snack provided but I recommend that you take adequate water. Ticket in Nov 29, 2015 was Rs 599/-online Mumbai Film City tours or Book My Show site. We went early, had a great famous seafood meal at Malwani (South Maharashtrian) restaurant I had selected.

The tour takes you to show grounds and sites sets from sit in the Bus basis. A wannabe an Actor experienced in actual film acting is the Guide who tells you where what was shot. He takes help of pre loaded Video CD which shows us all in the Bus actual shots of the past films or serials which were shot. At temple and at Helicopter landing ground spots we get to get out of the Bus and see Mumbai East from the Top spot. The Powai Lake scene is filmed as Ocean he said! Enjoy the two hours and relive filmi moments. There is a bigger tour which actually takes you to studios to show how you are filmed one of you and how sound recorded and Video Effects added. Third one takes you to more detailed tour they say. But I found this basic tour enough. You can tour whole suburban Mumbai carter road to Bandra lands end to see Homes of all past and present actors and Rich and the famous to complete the Mumbai experience. Unmissable! Go! We went after 30 years of denial by us and Them, and enjoyed it. Later on we had a Play to see great actors perform few feet away from you at the famed Prithvi theatres Juhu. You could too, but book online and go early stand in Q to get front seats of a Unique Theatre and great stage craft experience.

Film City is for Bollywood fanatics and TV serial enthusiasts. You go there watch how films are made and watching those stars looking at the script. Various different takes, everything feels like you yourself are a part of the movie.
