Rain Forest Resort Reviews

First of all, we were attracted to this place as the Chalakkudy waterfalls was touted as India's Niagara. Secondly, we chose Rainforest for 2 reasons - 1. we saw in their website that we would have the view of the falls from our cottage. We couldn't believe that we could view the falls ANYWHERE from our cottage including bathroom! 2. We had seen testimonials from Aishwarya Rai and Raavan Movie crew members who had stayed here during their shooting. We could boast to our friends & relatives that we stayed in the same cottage as Aishwarya Rai :-) Apart from the resort itself, we were taken for a nature walk to the falls and we had an awesome experience as it rained slightly while trekking back to the cottage which enhanced our experience.

Best Experience: 1. Ofcourse the view of the falls anywhere from our cottage and the dining area 2. The walk and trekking back to the cottage from the falls (This was arranged by Rainforest resort itself)

Worst Experience: No worst or bad experience as such. But if I have to say something not very positive, these are the ones - 1. the lunch menu was not so great 2. we were disappointed that there was no picnic at the waterfalls (as seen on website), but then anyways we wouldn't have been lucky as it rained when we went to the falls actually 3. We were imagining atleast it would be like the American side of the Niagara falls but to our bad luck, the dam water was not released and hence we did not get to see that kind of a view.

we were 3 ladies who checked in at Rainforest Athirapilly in 28th Jan 2012 and checked out on 30th. Rs 15000 was stolen from our bags left in the room. we couldnt get anybody to operate the safe provided in the room and the money was taken from a locked room. on alerting the manager about it she refused to do anything saying such a thing has never been reported before. on the second night we were the only guests at the resort and there was not a single staff member stationed at the property. Being an open property in the middle of the forest it was scary . on asking the manager she again said it was the policy of the resort to not employ any security. the quality of food, taste and service was very very lacking. very very disappointing on this trip to Kerala. This was our fifth visit to Kerala but the first at Rainforest Athirapilly We stayed in a premium room with a jacuzzi but there was no hot water and no water in the flush and the plumbers has to be called in every morning. the room walls and floors were crawling with ants which was again very dangerous. We had paid Rs 40000 just for our stay and breakfast (which is very expensive) and sadly came back feeling being looted. all the phone calls and mails for the last 3 weeks have elicited no reply from Avenue Hotels , the owners of this property.

There is only one thing in Athirapally and it is the Waterfall. We stayed at the Rainforest and all the rooms have a clear and direct waterfall view. It's brilliant. The hotel itself is deeply nestled in the forest and it built and maintained very well. I particularly liked the all sides open restaurant and reception. We trekked right up to the mouth of the waterfalls and got drenched in the monsoon rains a couple of times. It is about 45 mins walk; just make sure you dont carry food items in hand as there are lots of monkeys near the waterfall who will pester and snatch your food :-). Also make sure that you carry an umbrella in the Kerala monsoon unless you want to drench yourself. The hotel itself is built on stilts and is not suitable for people with disability as you will have to go up and down several times and there are no lifts.

Best Experience: The hotel itself is a small property - only 10 rooms and every room has a view to die for. Lying on your bed, you can directly enjoy the waterfalls and it is magical. Since it is a small hotel; the menu is limited and everything is freshly cooked. Service is good and the staff went out of their way to help my two kids with their requests.

Worst Experience: No bad experience.

the resort was very well located, beautiful nice huge rooms, service was good food was very bad and too over priced.......next time carry ur own cook or your own food, or eat somewhere else.

Best Experience: wow the view from your room is awesum,......can just lie on your bed and watch the falls.

Worst Experience: really bad food and so so so over priced......dont mind paying for good food, but ended up paying for bad food ..........that was ten times over priced.
