Fort Aguada was built in the early 16th century, during the time of the Portuguese rule in Goa. The fort was constructed with an aim to protect Goa from the attacks of neighbouring kingdoms. The fort is a fine example of colonial architecture. The fort has a citadel, which has an orbicular lighthouse tower, raised in 1864. Presently, the fort has been turned into a central jail and some sections of the fort lie in ruins.

Fort Aguada .. Visit with Dil Chahta hai mode !!!

It was an amazing experience, the weather surprisingly was awesome too and that added on to the amazing view from the fort, though the green landscaping which was there earlier has been modelled into some historical square with important dates regarding the fort on it, but still Aguada has it's old world charm! The wall facing the sea always reminds me of Dil Chahta hai sequence! It is a must go when you are in Goa

Has a rustic past

This place is very good interms of appearance, visiting and landscapes. We can have a good view of river-ocean combination from the top of the fort. We can imagine how the prisoners were caged here and even the walls of the fort tells us about this. We can find cool environment inside the fort although during scorching sun. It takes a bit more time to get around the fort like here and there. This place is very photogenic one irrespective of the weather.

King of lighthouses

This majestic lighthouse is one of the most beautiful and must visit places in North Goa. Fort Aguada is easily accessible from Calangute /Candolim. The view of Mandovi River from the walls of the fort is truly mesmerizing. However, the place becomes very crowded on weekends and tourist season.

Fort Aguada - One of the must visit places

About 18 km from Panjim at the mouth of the river Mandovi is the Middle Age fort of Aguada. Built in the 16th century by the Portuguese, this Fort was not only intended to protect Goa against its other European rivals but acted as a secret reservoir of water for the Far East bound Portuguese ships. Apparently there were natural springs inside the fort which created this secret lair. Currently part of the fort is a prison and part a 5 star resort run by the Taj. Also worth checking is the Lighthouse inside the fort, open towards the evening. The view from it is astounding.

Overall a Good Experience

Fort Aguada was good. Activities available was dolphin safari. But we spotted only 2 or 3 dolphins during May. Recommended to carry sun screen cream during summer since it was too hot.
