Worst Experience: The Service was not that great.dined at every possible place but the hygiene is not up to the mark

We went on a holiday after a long, long time so it was a very relaxing experience as such! A very pretty looking place, a nice touch of English architecture. A quaint electronic piano in the lobby that plays on its own!! No turban-clad men at the door - actually no one to open the door! The hotel was just a \'hotel\' - I mean, not over-friendly or casual like a resort - it functions almost like a business hotel. As it is part of the Welcomegroup, we had very high expectations but I would say, the overall experience was just \'satisfying\'. Located in a tourist destination with families as their main guests, the hotel can do well by adding a \'personal touch\'.

Best Experience: As usual, the waiters take the cake. Very hard working lot I must say. We had our 2-yr old baby with us who, like any other toddler, is a bundle of energy and an extremely fussy eater. The waiters at the restaurant took the effort to pack something from the buffet spread before we left on our day-trips on two days. That was a life-saver because our baby asked for food right on top of Doddabetta which was full of snack shops but nothing apetizing, rather nothing looked safe enough to be given to our baby. Another evening, the waiters readily agreed when we requested them to send to our room some rasam, rice and curd from the buffet spread. I am so grateful to them. And again on the day of our departure, we had to leave at 6 am to catch a flight from Coimbatore and requested for sandwiches to be packed and it was there, all read, nicely packed at the reception desk! Yes, the view is wonderful from any part of the hotel. And they have a cute little jogging track, which was right behind our room, complete with a nice lawn and pretty flowers.

Worst Experience: The worst experience? I wouldn\'t say \'worst\' but we had some \'not very good\' experiences. Well, it could be a matter of perception or expectation. The front-office staff had the most laid back attitude about sight-seeing and day-trips. We asked them if they organize for day-trips and there was a this one-liner from them - \'we don\'t organize but we out-source it\'. It sounded so abrupt and cold. Anyway, brushing that aside, we asked them later about a day-trip to Mudumalai and Pykkara. The lady at the desk said the cost is Rs. 1400 plus taxes for 4 hours - nothing about the place, no excitement, no additional info. We asked her if we can complete the trip in 4 hours and she said yes. Luckily we got in touch with another cab operator and the trip took us around 6-7 hours!! Maybe she thought - leave hotel, touch the soil of Mudumalai and Pykkara quickly and zip back to the hotel :) There\'s Pykkara lake with boating, Pykkara waterfall (we had to get up to that place to realize there\'s actually no waterfall this season!), then a few scenic spots in between, Mudumalai Reserve, the safari...all in 4 hours?? But I guess, that\'s the general attitude towards tourism in Ooty. I\'ll come to that in another article!! Then, I\'m not too happy about the facilities in the room as such. There are certain things you expect out of a hotel of this standard and cost! There was a mini-fridge but no mini bar. No fruit basket or cookie tray. The whole place looked old but recently done up in a hurry to meet the season rush. The wooden flooring looked unkempt with ages of dirt under the cot. I\'m getting personal here but I have to mention it at the cost of blushing! The tiny bathroom had a huge tub with shower. There was this WC with no health faucet or even a tap nearby. There wasn\'t a bucket even!!! Any average Indian can understand my predicament without explaining further :b !! Plus I couldn\'t put my baby right under the shower and I had to fill at least half the tub to bathe her - what a waste of water and how very inconvenient! And I have to share it with you..all regular hotel-goers and people from the customer service background come across various complaints and all service providers have different ways of dealing with them. But this hotel looks like has a very imaginative and quirky trainer! We had ordered Pasta for our baby at the restaurant and went for a walk while it was getting ready. We come back and the waiter very eagerly tells us, Pasta is ready. Why don\'t you go to your room? We will send it up there. We thought \'wow! how thoughtful! Good for us too!\'. So we go up, wait, wait and wait. No pasta. I call room-service and ask for it. Another very eager voice tells us, \'oh that?...it was ready but it wasn\'t prepared well. We are making another one. Just 5 mins pls.\' We go, \'wow\' again but confused! Pasta finally comes, doesn\'t taste great but okay. Fussy baby barely touches it. So try to include it in our dinner. We order for some more food and ask for the pasta to be heated up. They agree. Our food arrives and but no heated pasta. Call room service again - \'madam the pasta you sent was smelly. so we are sending a fresh one\'. Now there was no wow from us but just a smirk! How can it get smelly in a matter of half an hour? The pasta comes all heated up - the same left overs of our darling daughter and definitely not a fresh one - not even extra sauce!! :) Come on...stop conning us guys and get a new trainer for yourselves!! The food was okay. I would say the buffet was a rip off - all three meals. Too expensive for such a limited spread. Then, they have a funny way of putting out the spread in the restaurant - there are two arches with a kind of a platform diving them. So logically, the veg section should be on one side and the non-veg on the other. But during every meal, there would be 2-3 good veg items on the other side. So, again its a matter of perception, but pure vegetarians wouldn\'t even walk up to the other side - thinking everything is non-veg over there and eventually miss out on these items! There is not a single item from the local cuisine on the menu - even if there was one, there is no mention of it at all. Very sad. Lack of interest and pro-activeness is what I would point-out as the drawbacks of this hotel.
