Yercaud food, sight-seeing and shopping options
Food is average here. As we stayed in Salem, we just happened to taste the Lunch and snacks in Yercaud which was not bad! We tried the Hotel Malar, based on the feedbacks from web and didn't turn out to be a bad deal.(the fact was none of us wanted to experiment on our stomach as we had to rush to office next day!) As I mentioned earlier its not a hectic sight seeing place. perfect for a two day plan (a weekend!). We reached on a Saturday evening went to the view points (Gents seat, Ladies seat and Childrens seat) and enjoyed the panoramic view of sunset from there. Adding colour was the enchanting view of Salem city lit gloriously below.Next day we covered the Shevarayon (Servaraayan probably) temple, which houses the Kaveramma and has a cave which is believed to extend for about 480 kms till Mysore. The road that stretches to Shevroy temple is very scenic. Not to forget, this place has a lot for budding photographers. We found freshly plucked oranges on the way near rajarajeswari temple but wern't lucky enough to see the Botanical garden as its closed on Sunday. We had plans of even trekking to the kiliyur falls but dropped it as we heard there is no water, from the localites. our next destination was Mountfort School, which is a well maintained residential school which is open to visitors during weekens between 2 pm to 4 pm.(But the security here was very rude to us!)this school has a mini zoo also and a replica of Eiffel tower as well. Boating in the lake cannot be avoided at any cost. We were lucky enough for another mesmerizing sunset the next day. Notihng much to shop other than forest products, natural perfumeries and vegetables.

Hotel Review of GRT Nature Trails
Comments: GRT Nature Trails Sky Roca is a fantastic place to holiday in Yercaud. We decided to choose Sky Roca, after reading the reviews on HolidayIQ. We stayed at Sky Roca on 3rd and 4th of May 2009. The room booking was done onlineand there were no hassles either during the booking process or during the check in.
The ambience of the hotel is great and the icing on the cake is the view. The hotel is built on a ledge and every room has a balcony where you can get a great view of the hills, vallers and the ghat roads below. At night, you can see the lights in the city of Salem below.

Overall, we had a great experience at the hotel. The valley view rooms are priced ar Rs.2500, but an additional Rs.1000 is charged as peak season premium. However, we got a complimentary pick up from Salem railway station to Yercaud. And the tariff includes complimentary breakfast.
Best Experience: The views were fantastic. The room was excellent maintained. Good ambience and decor. But the highlight of a stay at Hotel Sky Roca is the Sky Walk. A bridge connects the hotel building to the restaurant building. A part of the bridge has glass flooring. As you walk on the glass, you can see the valley beneath. This is a great innovation and you wont tire walking many times of the sky walk to get the feel of doing a tightrope walk in mid-air. Each time you walk, you wonder when the glass may break, but everything is built to high safety standards.
Other attractions at the hotel include:
1) A treehouse built next to the hotel, you can climb up a metal staircase and enjoy the view
2) A library with Internet access (which was down when we stayed), books and DVD's (only Tamil movies though)
3) Just outside the reception, cycles are kept for children to take a jolly ride, this is an interesting innovation which will please children
4) An indoor games area - where you can play scrabble, carrom, chess and other such games
5) A picturesque elevator where you watch the view as you ascend/descend

The highlight of this hotel is excellent maintenance of great housekeeping and service of the very helpful front office staff
Worst Experience: The restuarant needs improvement. We made a mistake of not opting for the buffet and all orders take their own sweet time. Even ice-cream takes 15 minutes. Service is also very average. Food quality is just Ok and can improve (through the breakfast buffet was good and had lot of options)
